Publishing its first consolidated Annual Report, in which it reports its financial figures and sustainability activities, Daimler Truck gives high priority to sustainability in its business processes and all other activities. Reaching its target of mass-producing eight battery-electric trucks and buses by 2022, the company plans to put into mass production 10 battery-electric trucks and buses worldwide by the end of this year.
Daimler Truck, the umbrella company of Mercedes-Benz Türk, which has been working for many years in line with its goal of pioneering transportation and transformation in the sector with zero emissions, gives high priority to sustainability in all its activities.
Reaching important milestones within the scope of sustainability activities and initiatives in 2022, the company has also set new targets in the field. Expanding its zero-carbon product line, Daimler Truck introduced eight battery-electric trucks and buses to the market in 2022 as part of mass production. The company, which has been working on zero-emission vehicles for many years, continues to expand its product portfolio for battery-electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles.
Expanding emission-free truck and bus product portfolio
Daimler Truck is planning to launch the serial production version of the eActros LongHaul truck, which it foresees to have a range of up to 2024 kilometers, which will be put into use in the field of long-distance transportation as of 500. The company has further developed the hydrogen-powered, fuel-cell Mercedes-Benz GenH2 truck for mass production. At the same time, production of the new fuel cells is planned to begin at the Weilheim facilities in the very near future, in conjunction with the joint venture between Daimler Truck and cellcentric of the Volvo Group.
Daimler Buses, which plans to offer battery-electric or hydrogen-powered carbon-neutral vehicle models in every bus segment in its product portfolio by 2030, plans to introduce the fully electric city bus before 2025 and the hydrogen-powered intercity bus by 2030. The company also aims to introduce only new carbon-neutral vehicles to the market in the city bus market segment in Europe by 2030.
Achieved zero carbon in production at European plants
Daimler Truck, which has successfully implemented many projects for the protection of resources and climate-friendly production in 2022, has reached its goal of zero carbon in production by using carbon-free electricity obtained from solar, wind and hydroelectric power plants in its European facilities. The company has already installed solar modules with a generation capacity of approximately 7,9 MWp, enabling the generation of 7,2 GWh of electricity per year at its production facilities around the world. The production amount in question corresponds to the annual consumption amount of approximately 2 households with four people.
Within the scope of the "Green Production Initiative", the company aims to reduce carbon emissions for production by 2030 percent by 2021, according to the emission levels in 42, and anticipates obtaining at least 55 percent of the energy consumed during this period from renewable energy sources.
Electric trucks in the supply chain
Daimler Truck, which systematically leads the transformation into carbon-neutral powertrains in the transportation sector, also focuses on electric trucks in its supply chain. In this context, the company has also set a target for the delivery traffic to consist entirely of electric vehicles by 2026 in the Wörth region, where the largest assembly plant is located.
