“You need something to make you happy while walking in the hospital”

Actress Aslı Samat, who changed the direction of her life with a healthy diet after bariatric surgery and met her audience with a perfect change, was among those who visited the exhibition. Samat, who made a name for himself with the weight he lost in addition to the projects he took part in, emphasized the healing power of colors and art with these words:

“Experiencing such an exhibition in a hospital environment is very valuable. As someone who has had a lot of surgery, you always need something to make you happy while walking around the hospital. Both patients and their relatives are considered here. The liveliness, colors and narratives of this exhibition, which was inspired by the dreams of the painter Burçin Hanım, are very special.”

“Art heals”

“Waking Up to Colors” exhibition by artist Burçin Gökçen; It consists of works that he created inspired by nature, ironies, fairy tales and dreams, and brought together on canvas with the help of acrylic paint technique and colors. Nature and sea creatures take the leading roles in the paintings. With his allegorical expression, Gökçen aims to reveal positive emotions in art lovers.

Stating that she brought the exhibition to life with the works she created in a period of two and a half months, Burçin Gökçen said, “We are going through really difficult times, but there is also a life going on. Art heals, makes you think and act. I finished this exhibition in two and a half months. I drew my dreams and tried to convey them with symbolic expression. There can be many different things under a pessimistic outlook.”

The exhibition highlights that the effects of the difficult situation we are in and the spiritual emptiness can be healed with art. The healing power of art is also frequently used in psychotherapy. Clinical psychologist Ayşe Burcu Durak explained the healing power of art with these words:

“Art has an important place on human psychology. Sometimes we cannot express our feelings very clearly and we can experience emotional blockage. In times like these, a picture is worth a thousand words. This is why we can use art in psychotherapies. With the expressive therapy technique, we help patients in the treatment of both mental and physical diseases such as cancer by freely reflecting our emotions on the canvas.”

The painting exhibition “While Colors Awaken” awaits its visitors at Memorial Bahçelievler Art Gallery until April 24.
