Automotive Industry Association (OSD) announced the data for the first two months of 2023. Compared to the same period of the previous year, total production increased by 14 percent to 223 thousand 796 units.
Automobile production, which increased by 23 percent compared to the first two months of the previous year, reached 134 thousand 474 units. Together with the tractor production, the total production increased to 233 thousand 731 units. In the commercial vehicle group, production increased by 3 percent in the first two months of the year, by 48 percent in the heavy commercial vehicle group, and decreased by 1 percent in the light commercial vehicle group. Compared to the first two months of 2022, the commercial vehicle market increased by 80 percent, the heavy commercial vehicle market by 55 percent and the light commercial vehicle market by 85 percent. In the first two months of the year, compared to the same period of the previous year, total automotive exports increased by 8 percent on the basis of units, while the increase in automobile exports was 14 percent. In this period, total exports amounted to 158 thousand 145 units, while automobile exports amounted to 97 thousand 596 units. In the two-month period of 2023, the total market increased by 51 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 138 thousand 405 units. In this period, the automobile market also increased by 44 percent and reached 96 thousand 195 units.

Accordingly, in the first two months of the year, total automotive production increased by 14 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 223 thousand 796 units. Automobile production, on the other hand, increased by 23 percent to 134 thousand 474 units. Together with the tractor production, the total production amounted to 233 thousand 731 units. In the first two months of the year, commercial vehicle production increased by 3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In this period, while production in the heavy commercial vehicle group increased by 48 percent, the production in the light commercial vehicle group decreased by 1 percent. During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 68 percent. On the basis of vehicle group, capacity utilization rates were 68 percent in light vehicles (cars + light commercial vehicles), 83 percent in the truck group, 34 percent in the bus-midibus group, and 78 percent in the tractor.
Exports increased by 13 percent and reached 5,5 billion dollars!
In the first two months of the year, automotive exports increased by 8 percent on a unit basis compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 158 thousand 145 units. In this period, automobile exports increased by 14 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while commercial vehicle exports were at a parallel level. Tractor exports, on the other hand, increased by 2022 percent compared to the same period of 9 and amounted to 3 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly, the total automotive industry exports ranked first in the sectoral exports with a share of 416 percent in the first two months of 2023. According to Uludag Exporters' Association (UIB) data, total automotive exports in the first two months increased by 12,2 percent compared to the same period of 2022 and reached 13 billion dollars. In euro terms, it increased by 5,5 percent to 19 billion euros. In this period, exports of the main industry increased by 5,1 percent in dollar terms, and exports of the supply industry increased by 15 percent.

Looking at the commercial vehicle market, in the first two months of the year, compared to the same period of the previous year, the total commercial vehicle market grew by 68%, the heavy commercial vehicle market by 60%, and the light commercial vehicle market by 70%. In the January-February period of 2023, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was 36 percent, and the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 51 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
