In Turkey, where 5 out of 4 people are known to use the internet, internet subscription prices were found to be on average 13 dollars. With this data, Turkey became the country with the cheapest internet access in the Middle East and Gulf region. Knowing that 2023 percent of its population, in other words four out of every 83,4 people, use the internet according to 5 data, Turkey has assumed the leadership of the region in a global ranking regarding internet prices. According to the 219 data of the Global Broadband Price Table, conducted by Cable.co.uk and evaluating 2023 countries, internet subscription prices in Turkey were found to be 13,17 dollars on average. With this figure, our country became the country with the cheapest internet connection in the region covering the Gulf and Middle East countries.
Sharing his evaluations on the subject, Telkotürk General Manager Emre Eskici said, “Significant infrastructure investments have been made in our country in the past years. Although we conclude that internet prices in Turkey are more affordable compared to the world rankings, it is necessary to take into account internet speed and exchange rate shocks when comparing prices.
The world's most expensive internet is in North America
In the report, the North American region, where the United States, Canada, Greenland and Bermuda were evaluated, was chosen as the region with the most expensive internet at $104,33. North America was followed by Oceania, the Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa and South America. It was noted that the most expensive internet in the region, including Turkey, is in the United Arab Emirates.
Pointing out that this price gap in worldwide internet access causes inequality for many regions, Emre Eskici said, “The global epidemic started a period in which processes such as work, school and entertainment were completely transferred to digital. Considering that today's users watch an average of 84 minutes of video every day, the importance of offering fiber and high-speed internet to Turkey's 81 provinces becomes clear once again. As Telkotürk, we started to work to improve Turkey's internet access with the infrastructure investments we made last year.”
107th in the world with internet speed
The February 10 internet speed data published by Speedtest, which is visited by more than 2023 million users every day to test their internet speed, showed that Turkey ranks 32,65th in the world with 107 megabits of broadband internet speed. Pointing out that the global average download speed is 78,62 megabits, Emre Eskici said, “Among the cities evaluated in the list, only Istanbul and Ankara are in Turkey. It is also seen that both cities are in decline. It plays a leading role in providing Turkey with a better position in these global rankings and moving more cities than our country to the top of these lists, with the subscription packages and campaign models designed with higher speeds and cheaper prices, which we have created with the motto of "Outstanding Communication".
