The Foundation of the Facility to Solve Tuzla's Odor Problem Was Laid

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) laid the foundation of “Şile Kömürcüoda Waste Leachate Treatment Plant”, which will eliminate the chronic odor problem in Tuzla. Speaking at the ceremony held in Tuzla Ahmet Kılıç Boulevard, IMM President and Vice President candidate Ekrem İmamoğludrew attention to the importance of snow falling at short intervals during the day. Reminding that Istanbul had a dry season this year, İmamoğlu said, “Today is a very fruitful day. Snow today, rain yesterday; Frankly, we missed it. So I have a claim: God gives according to the hearts of good people. I believe 86 percent that 100 million people of our country will give according to their heart.” Stating that they had a special moment, İmamoğlu said, “We will be watching a groundbreaking ceremony in Tuzla. We will hold the groundbreaking ceremony in Şile. But why am I talking to the people of Tuzla in Tuzla? Of course, this may sound strange to you. But let me state this: Tuzla has an odor problem. And we are working hard to solve this problem," he said.

"DISCRATCHING NATURE MEANS DIAGRAMING THE FUTURE"

Noting that they established a commission about 3 years ago to solve the aforementioned problem, İmamoğlu said, “It was a work under the coordination of İSKİ, but in which different institutions and organizations of both the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and the Istanbul Governor's Office had to contribute. We set up this commission for him. But let's admit it; We could not get enough support from some institutions. But we have done our part and continue to do so.” Expressing that they will eliminate Tuzla's odor problem with the facility to be built in Şile, İmamoğlu said, “We experienced an earthquake. We lost our lives. We are really on fire. We wish you mercy. Our condolences to our nation. May their place be heaven. We have wounded. I know that we still have paramedics who are struggling to heal our wounded with an intense struggle. I wish a speedy recovery to our injured. But the earthquake disaster that caused us this great pain showed us that if you do not live in harmony with the conditions of the natural environment we live in, if you do not take your precautions accordingly, unfortunately you cannot create a country that is resistant to nature and natural disasters. We have experienced the painful consequences of disrupting this harmony. In fact, we learned that once again; Ignoring nature means ignoring the future”.

TOGAY SHARED INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROJECT

After his speech, İmamoğlu made a speech at the groundbreaking area in Şile, İBB Environmental Protection and Control Department Head Prof. Dr. Ayşen Erdinçler and İSTAÇ General Manager Ziya Gökmen left it to Togay. Sharing information about the facility, Togay said:

“In our Şile Kömürcüoda Regular Storage Facilities, we store 5-6 thousand tons of domestic waste from the Anatolian side every day. Waste leachate, which is formed as a natural result of this storage, is treated in our treatment facilities. We still provide services at our facility, which was commissioned in 2009, with an actual capacity of 500 cubic meters, and which has completed its economic life, and we transfer the remaining amount. The capacity of our facility, which we see here today, spread over an area of 30 thousand square meters, will be 4000 cubic meters per day. And when necessary, we designed the project to be increased up to 6000 cubic meters when needed. With the treatment plant we opened in Silivri Seymen at the end of last year, we have increased the total treatment capacity of Istanbul by 100 percent and reached 8000 meters cubed. When we commission this facility, we will increase this capacity by 50 percent to over 10 thousand cubic meters.”

The foundation of the facility, which will make Tuzla breathe, was laid in Şile under the witness of İmamoğlu and Kartal Mayor Gökhan Yüksel.
