In Hatay, which suffered the most from the disaster of the century, not only buildings, but also centuries-old mosques, castles, inns, churches and many historical monuments were either completely destroyed or severely damaged. One of the oldest mosques in Hatay, the historical Ulu Mosque, which is thought to have been built between 1271-1272, was destroyed after the earthquakes and turned into a pile of rubble. The Great Mosque, which is a complex that was built during the Mamluks period and consists of structures built in different periods such as a madrasa, summer mosque, fountain, two tombs, fountain, soup kitchen and shops; It also had the feature of being the only work in terms of having two mihrabs in the sanctuary.

It was repaired several times after its construction. The last repairs of the complex were carried out by the General Directorate of Foundations in 1986 and 2002. This magnificent mosque, built by Yıldırım Bayezid, is one of the symbols of Bursa. Each city is formed in circles around a great temple.
