In Russia, production of emergency active zone cooling system (ADSS) hydraulic tank for Akkuyu NGS 4th Power Unit started. ADSS tanks are one of the most important elements of the security system. NGS operating without personnel intervention and the use of external power supply sources belong to additional protection mechanisms. The structure consists of four tanks of 75 tons each. The tanks are made of carbon steel and include three shoulder rings that are over 3 meters in diameter. During operation, each tank contains 60 cubic meters of aqueous boric acid solution. The cooling system ensures that residual heat is safely removed from the reactor when an emergency arises.

First Deputy General Manager – Akkuyu NPP Construction Director Sergei Butckikh said about the start of production of ADSS hydraulic tanks: “Equipment production for Akkuyu NPP is progressing in accordance with the project documentation and construction schedule, including the coordinated work of AKKUYU NÜKLEER employees and Russian colleagues. . After manufacturing, the cooling tanks will be subjected to hydraulic testing, which is one of the important stages of the final inspection of the equipment. The tanks will then be transferred to the field in Turkey to be placed in the reactor building of the fourth power unit.”

In the construction of the first NPP in Turkey, the most modern and safest VVER-1200 technology is used, based on Russia's many years of experience in working with such reactors. 5 reference power units are operating for Akkuyu NPP in Russia and Belarus. 34 reactors using this technology are under construction in 11 countries.
