Izmir Metropolitan Municipality City Theaters hosted earthquake survivors on 8 March in cooperation with Izmir City Council. The women who watched the “Mor Salwar” play applauded the performance of the actors for minutes.

With the cooperation of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality City Theaters (İzBBŞT) and İzmir City Council, İzBBŞT's play “Purple Shalwar”, which focuses on women's issues, was staged for earthquake survivors who came to İzmir on March 8, International Women's Day. İzmir City Theaters Founding General Art Director Yücel Erten, İzmir City Council President Nilay Kökkılınç, women who came to İzmir from the earthquake zone and stakeholders of the City Council attended the event. During the screening at the İzBBŞT İsmet İnönü Stage, the audience filled the hall and applauded the performances of the actors for minutes.

“We were happy to host our citizens during the earthquake”

Speaking after the play, İzmir City Theaters Founding General Art Director Yücel Erten stated that they are happy to host the members of the İzmir City Council and the earthquake-stricken women on March 8, International Women's Day and said, “On such an important night, we included the valuable components of the city council, its members and our sorrowful region among us. We were happy to host our compatriots. Of course, being in contact with the organs of civil society is our theater's duty and gain. “March 8 is more meaningful and empowering this year”

İzmir City Council President, lawyer Nilay Kökkılınç, in her speech, mentioned that 8 March International Women's Day is more meaningful this year and stated that they continue to heal the wounds with collective work after the earthquake disaster. Underlining that İzmir has a solidarity-loving community, Kökkılınç said: “We are trying to show in every field and in every way that we are with our earthquake-affected citizens who came to our city to open the windows of a new life affected by the earthquake in these difficult days. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality City Theaters, which added new colors to our souls, presented this precious play to us with a special screening to support our new neighbors and friends who were affected by the earthquake, in partnership with İzmir City Council, on this precious day. We would like to thank our players and workers.”

After the game, İzmir City Council President Nilay Kökkılınç presented an olive sapling to İzBBŞT Founding General Art Director Yücel Erten and Mor Shalvar players. In addition, the exhibition consisting of the works that won the 'Gender Equality International Poster Competition', which was held in cooperation with the Izmir City Council and the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Social Projects Department, Women's Studies Branch, attracted great attention.
