Within the scope of the works carried out by the Customs Enforcement teams of the Ministry of Commerce, the entry of 90 tons and 700 kilos of hazardous waste into Turkey was prevented.

According to the statement made by the Ministry, in the analysis and targeting studies carried out by the Customs Enforcement teams of the Ministry of Commerce within the scope of combating smuggling, the goods that a company wants to import under the name of zinc ore were under the spotlight.

A sample was taken from the goods suspected of containing harmful substances that may adversely affect public health, and sent for analysis. As a result of the analysis report, organic compounds formed as a result of combustion in the sent sample were detected and it was revealed that the item was flue gas dust.

Due to the fact that chimney dust was considered as hazardous waste and included in the list of wastes that are prohibited to be imported, the teams did not allow a total of 90 tons and 700 kilos of hazardous waste to enter Turkey. An investigation was launched before the Tekirdağ Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident.
