Electric Vehicle Charging Station Coming to İSPARK Car Parks

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) will establish charging stations in ISPARK parking lots in order to support domestic electric vehicle production and to meet the charging needs of the vehicles produced. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) has decided to implement the Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Project.

The project, which was brought to the agenda at the UKOME (IMM Transportation Coordination Center) meeting, was accepted unanimously by the members. Buğra Gökce, Deputy Secretary General of IMM, who led the meeting, said that they believe that the decision will play an important role in meeting the charging needs of electric vehicles, which are expected to become widespread rapidly.

“7 million electric vehicles in 1 years”

İSPARK Deputy General Manager Samet Aslan stated that 2030 percent of the number of electric vehicles in our country is foreseen to be in Istanbul in 55, and said that the electric vehicles in the city will reach 7 million within 1 years.

Returning that it has been determined that at least 10 charging socket will be needed for every 1 vehicles in Turkey, Aslan noted that the daily average charging capacity of gas stations in Istanbul is 400 vehicles, and that the electrical infrastructure of homes and workplaces is not suitable for vehicle charging in its current state.

“Station installations begin”

Within the scope of the project, charging station units will be installed in the ISPARK multi-storey car parks, which have the electrical infrastructure ready, and will be made ready for operation this year. In 2024 and 2025, installations will continue in open and road parking lots. With the investments to be made until 2030, it is aimed that 10 percent of the total capacity of ISPARK car parks will provide charging services for electric vehicles.
