ASPİLSAN Energy, the establishment of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, meets the electricity needs of a tent city thanks to the solar panels it has installed in Hatay. ASPİLSAN Energy, which offers energy solutions to many sectors, meets the electricity needs of the tent city where approximately 2 thousand earthquake victims live, thanks to the solar panels they installed in Hatay.

ASPİLSAN officials, the institution of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, took action to meet the electricity needs of the regions centered in Kahramanmaraş, where great destruction was experienced in the earthquakes that occurred on February 6th.

In the first days of the earthquake, the panels installed to meet the electricity needs of a tent city in Kahramanmaraş were moved to the tent city in the Narlıca District of Hatay, where there are 200 tents, when the need there ended.

The 100 kWh system installed in the tent city in the Narlıca District meets the individual electricity use of 2 earthquake victims and the lighting needs of that region.

Ferhat Özsoy, General Manager of ASPİLSAN Energy, said that they were working on the storage of solar energy while constructing the energy storage system.

Explaining that they took action immediately after the earthquake, Özsoy said:

“In this context, we have designed a small energy storage system for the defense industry, especially to use it at border posts or detached police stations. We tried this at a police station in Kilis. Following the end of this test period, we brought this system to ASPİLSAN Energy. This is where this awful thing happened. What can we do in an earthquake? When we thought that we could meet the energy needs especially in parallel with the establishment of tent cities, we immediately coordinated with AFAD and prepared the system and sent it to Kahramanmaraş.”

Özsoy stated that they moved the system, which served in Kahramanmaraş for 10 days, to Hatay upon request, when there was no longer a need there.

Expressing that it is important to meet a need of the country in this direction, Özsoy continued as follows:

“We meet the electricity needs of 200 tents in the tent city here, from phone charges to lighting. Our friends have been here for 8 days. We are lighting this tent city of 200 tents by storing the energy we obtain from the sun, without using any additional energy system. This is of course our prototype. The starting point of a process that we have just begun. We were happy to be able to meet such a need at a time when our country was going through a major disaster. Hopefully, in the future, by making these systems more mobile and meeting larger needs, we will have prepared alternatives that will respond to these needs immediately in our country, which is an earthquake zone. We are making the necessary preparations for this. We normally respond to the need at the moment with a 50 kilowatt system. Of course, this is a modular system. It is possible to produce the desired power by increasing the number of batteries.”

Özsoy stated that they will move this system to another place as there is no need for them in their region.

Emphasizing that after the earthquakes, they also developed a mini storage device called “Crane”, Özsoy said, “This is an important energy storage device. You can both get electricity like a city current and charge your mobile phone by taking direct current (DC). It has been specially designed for the benefit of our citizens here. It can also be used as a beacon. We designed and brought it to the region in about a week. We will produce and send in series. Our citizens in the region will be using it.” he said.
