Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Kahramanmaraş Disaster Coordination Unit set up tents in places requested by earthquake victims, especially in the villages where the destruction was experienced. 142 tents with stoves were delivered to families.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality continues to support earthquake victims in the devastation areas in Kahramanmaraş. The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Unit, which was established in the Narlı District of Pazarcık, the epicenter of the earthquake, sets up tents at the points of need in order to solve the most important need of the region, the shelter problem. The installation of a total of 142 tents in Kahramanmaraş, mainly in the villages, has been completed. The teams, who went to the places requested by the earthquake victims, assembled the tents and stoves in the designated areas and delivered them to the families.
“Unforgettable”
Ahmet Irgat, a citizen of Kahramanmaraş, whose tent installation has been completed by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, said, “It is very difficult to describe what happened. It was a great disaster. We were all so scared. God looked at us, we saved our lives. Since the day he arrived, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has helped our friends and us a lot; unforgettable. These days we need these supports. They also did their best. We are grateful to Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. A big thank you to the staff here. It has benefited my children countless times, we can't forget it," he said.
Gül Irgat said, “There is no recipe for this pain. We are alive, but I am very sad for relatives and friends. We have seen the benefits of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, God bless you. My children were very cold, but they are fine in this tent, thank God."
Support for the work of volunteers for children
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality provides its support in cooperation with the institutions for the correct delivery of the aid to the region. Teams went to the area and set up the children's playground and rehabilitation area to be established by Eğitim-Sen volunteers affiliated to the Confederation of Public Workers' Unions (KESK).

İzmir KESK volunteer educator Önder Canveren, who voluntarily serves the earthquake victims in the region, said, “This tent is a very different one. Because we will use this tent as a training and rehabilitation tent. We would like to thank Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, our president and all the workers. We needed this tent very urgently so that children's lives could be normalized and they could overcome their traumas. Fortunately, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is here. I can confidently say that Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is the most organized and fastest municipality in the region.”
