İmamoğlu Earthquake Is Destiny In This Country, But It Is Not Our Destiny To Die In An Earthquake

IMM, which was matched with Hatay by AFAD after 2 major earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, held a 'coordination meeting' in the city that experienced the disaster. Speaking at the meeting held at the 'İBB Disaster Coordination Center' located on an area of 35 decares in Antakya, the President Ekrem İmamoğlu“The power of the state comes from its ability to solve problems. We are in a time when our citizens have to feel the power of the state more than ever before. We also need a real earthquake mobilization. Living with an earthquake is destiny for everyone in this geography; TRUE. But to die in an earthquake is never our destiny, it cannot be. While we are standing in a place where remedies are known, precautions have been developed, and in this sense, disaster preparedness has been experienced in many aspects with examples in the world, we can never, ever innocent ourselves by simply blaming others for neglecting this preparation.” Saying, “We care about keeping the common mind, science, existence and sustainability on the agenda of the society”, İmamoğlu emphasized that the 'Disaster Fighting Science Board must be put into action. İmamoğlu said, “In the formation of scientific committees; The inclusion of professional chambers and non-governmental organizations will also strengthen participation. Because I remind once again that it is wrong to abolish the National Earthquake Council, which was established in 1999, on the grounds that it has lost its currency in 2007, and I would like to convey that such a council is an essential need of our country to the concerned and authorities.

CHP Secretary General Selin Sayek Böke, CHP Deputy Chairman Fethi Açıkel, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğlu, Hatay Metropolitan Mayor Lütfü Savaş, his wife Prof. Dr. With the participation of Nazan Savaş and Adana Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar, a “Coordination Meeting” was held in Hatay, which was hit by two major earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş. To the meeting held at the Disaster Coordination Center, which is located on an area of 2 decares by IMM in Antakya; Bilecik, Defne, Arsuz, Samandağ, Erzin, K, Sarıyer, Şişli, Avcılar, Kartal, Beşiktaş, Beylikdüzü, mayors, Hatay deputies and IMM bureaucrats attended. At the meeting, which started with the presentation of IMM President Advisor Yiğit Oğuz Duman, the road map to be followed in coordination was discussed.

“ONE OF OUR MOST IMPORTANT EXAMS”

At the end of the meeting, İmamoğlu and Savaş made an evaluation speech. Emphasizing that the meeting they held was a start, İmamoğlu said: “With AFAD's assignment, we have a responsibility to Hatay as all institutions in Istanbul. We have a responsibility to contribute to AFAD. We have a responsibility to work with our Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, his team, other mayors and their teams. At the end of the day, this process is perhaps one of the most important tests for all of us. We had a great disaster. We are in great sadness. We all know this. But we are in moments when we will not forget that our responsibilities are greater than that. No one should doubt that we will definitely overcome our hopelessness and pessimism. There is anger in us, there is rebellion. But we will bring this feeling together with reason and logic. We will trust humanity, our humanity. We will trust ourselves, our nation, our state and we will increase this trust, friends.”

“WE HAVE AN IMPORTANT PROCESS AHEAD WE HAVE TO ACHIEVE”

“We may be going through one of the most difficult tests as human beings. All of us, especially you, our dear friends who have lost their institutions, companions and relatives who live and work here. But we will trust in Almighty Allah, who has given us the strength and will to overcome them. We have a very important process ahead of us. But we will not forget that we have to succeed in the end. The character of this land and this society also imposes on us the responsibility we have to achieve. Even now, we feel that our great nation's sense of help and solidarity is very unique, and that it gives us beautiful and spiritual moments. When we join hands, we also feel that there is nothing we cannot achieve. We will not forget that our state is strong. We will be aware that we will overcome every problem. Of course, we cannot claim that sometimes being strong produces a position of not making mistakes. Errors happen. It doesn't prevent it. Mistakes were made for him. Maybe it's still being done. But all these, everything from the past to the present, errors, deficiencies; We'll put them off a little bit, then we'll sit down and talk. And we will also talk about our mistakes, our shortcomings and why we couldn't come together. Let's say that there will be days when we will definitely deal with them legally, morally and humanely.”

“EVERY AUTHORITY HAS THE OBLIGATION TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE ATTITUDES, BEHAVIORS, LANGUAGES AND ATTITUDES”

“Of course we have a priority today. First of all, not to allow any more mistakes to be made. We will act in an attitude that aims to activate the common mind and strategic mind, not to read what each of our managers knows, by being aware of each other, in coordination with each other. And we will prevent these mistakes. Of course, from now on, our state has the obligation to show all its power in the most effective way without making mistakes. We all know that the power of the state comes from the trust it gives to its people. Therefore, in this sensitive period, every official has the obligation to pay attention to their attitudes, behaviors, language and attitudes. Today, we remind everyone in the authorities that they should act without damaging the trust in the state, and we take the responsibility that falls on us. We must have the character of offering the same love, the same respect, the same understanding and the same service to every individual of the nation, without discrimination. All state officials, all of us, must not leave a dust speck of doubt that any citizen is discriminated against. As all managers, we must set this goal and we are obliged to combine all our resources and opportunities in line with common goals.”

“WE HAVE TO MOVE EVERY STEP WITH INTELLIGENCE AND SCIENCE”

“We are in the days of the responsibility of being a nation, acting together as a nation, perhaps living the highest point, the highest point. Therefore, we have to act and take every step with reason and science. There are very valuable examples in the world, there are very valuable examples in our own life. There are good examples made in our country's experience process. We have to put all these as a light before us and act. I express that it is essential to get rid of wrong habits and act with a new and courageous understanding. Of course, the phase of cooperation between the state and the nation is also very important here. The power of the state comes from its ability to solve problems. We are in a time when our citizens have to feel the power of the state more than ever before. In that respect, the cooperation of the state and the nation, transparency there, accountability there, solidarity there, meeting at the same table… Of course, we have institutions that are responsible for this work; especially AFAD and all institutions of our state. But we, the municipalities, who are here, want to share with our citizens that we are brave members of that table, individuals who are extremely determined to share their knowledge, put their efforts and put their resources on that table with all their minds, with all their ideas.”

“THE NATIONAL EARTHQUAKE COUNCIL ESTABLISHED IN 99, WAS ABUSED IN 2007, BECAUSE IT WAS 'LOSE CURRENTLY'”

“In this process, each of us demonstrates our determination to support tirelessly and relentlessly. We have to express that this responsibility is not only to the cities we are in, but also to every region of my country. We care about keeping the common mind, science, existence and sustainability on the agenda of the society. I think that it is absolutely essential that the Disaster Fighting Science Board be put into use, and that the strategic mind is not only in the state institutions, but that we actually have extremely valuable scientists and that there should be a Disaster Fighting Science Board where these scientists and technical people can directly contribute. In the formation of scientific committees; The inclusion of professional chambers and non-governmental organizations will also strengthen participation. Because I remind once again that it is wrong to abolish the National Earthquake Council, which was established in 1999, in 2007, saying that it has lost its currency and I would like to convey that such a council is an essential need of our country to those concerned and to the authorities.

“IF WE CAN PROVIDE A PROCESS WITHOUT A 'BUT' AND WITHOUT 'BUT'…”

“It is a fact that we will rise up as a nation and overcome these difficulties if we can achieve a process without 'but' or 'but' with our state, government, municipalities, local governments, non-governmental organizations, and our nation. Yes; The destruction is huge. We know this. But our people have needs after that. Everyone has meaningful ideas about the lives, safety, shelter, nutrition, health, education of our millions of people and making decisions about all these. That's why I would like to express that taking decisions that will affect people's lives for months, in front of people by 'pop' in the moment, hourly, during the day, unfortunately affect the society negatively. That's why, while making these decisions, it is very important that the channels of science being guided and different needs and the opinions of different segments are open. Here, I have to express that the broadest social and political consensus will give our society a very high morale at a time like this.”

“WE WILL TAKE THIS EXAM IN ANOTHER PLACE OF OUR COUNTRY TOMORROW”

“We must move forward by meeting with the state, the nation, the government, the opposition and their broadest common ground. An earthquake can strike another place at any time. So maybe we give this exam here today, but we will give it in another part of our country tomorrow. God forbid, people who are so desperate to help someone else today may need help and support tomorrow. In this context, it is imperative that we focus on the process from this point of view. That's why we have to learn from our experiences. While we are healing the wounds of the earthquake region, we know that all our cities have to start a great mobilization in preparation for such a disaster and in solidarity. The chief city of which is Istanbul; We are the main actors. In this respect, I would like to announce that we will start a very important process here. Istanbul is one of the places to be mobilized at this speed.”

“WE CAN'T BE DETERMINED TO DIE IN THE EARTHQUAKE”

“We care about three pillars in this regard. Central government-local government cooperation is very important. Local government reform and strengthening of local governments are very important in this sense. Of course, resource mobilization in a holistic way. Otherwise, it is obvious how much the institutions act on their own in 7-8 stages and act in a way that they can hear their own voice, and how much it delays our country and our cities, and how we are exposed to great losses as a result of this disaster. Therefore, we need a real earthquake mobilization. Living with an earthquake is destiny for everyone in this geography; TRUE. But to die in an earthquake is never our destiny, it cannot be. Let me highlight this. While we are standing in a place where remedies are known, precautions have been developed, and in this sense, disaster preparedness has been experienced in many ways with examples in the world, we can never, ever innocent ourselves here by simply blaming others for neglecting this preparation.”

“WE WILL ACT WITH THE INTEGRITY OF AN ORGANIZATION THAT WILL BECOME THE WOUNDS OF THIS DISASTER THAT OUR 10 CITIES HAVE BEEN FOUND”

“We are in Hatay with such an understanding. Here, we know how important Hatay is, how Atatürk entrusted this city to our 86 million people by saying, 'Hatay is my personal matter'. Of course, all our cities are very precious to us. We will act in an organizational integrity that will heal the wounds of this disaster, which the cities of our South, East and Southeast Anatolia Region and 10 of our cities have experienced, together. Since we are in Hatay, we talked about how all local governments can work more effectively in coordination and coordination with AFAD and other institutions of our state, and how to manage the process with better communication. But I would like to announce that as all CHP municipalities, we will do and show the same thing in our other cities. Of course, we hope to provide more support to Hatay and the entire earthquake region. We all know that something will come of our hands. Not only as institutions, but as individuals, as non-governmental organizations, as companies, of course, we applaud this courageous, conscientious behavior of our people all over Turkey, of course, we are grateful for this.”

“WE SHOULD STRENGTHEN HOW WE CAN GET TOGETHER WITHOUT YOU SAYING ME”

“Of course, let's also express that this needs a good organization. We should strengthen how we can come together without saying 'you do less, you do more or you don't', and how we can come together without saying 'you and me'. Less income comes more, but we should not forget that we can all do something. Everyone should know their own strength. We have to strengthen it so that people can trust themselves. Confident people produce self-confident societies. In this regard, I sincerely thank all my working friends, all the institutions in the search and rescue team, who have worked hard, put their minds, hearts and efforts to save people's lives under the rubble so far. We sincerely thank the dear people of Hatay, the beautiful people of this ancient land, for their patient, strong and dignified stance.”

“I HEARLY BELIEVE WE WILL OVERCOME THESE ALSO”

“Antakya, Iskenderun, Defne, Samandağ, Dörtyol, Erzin, Arsuz, Kırıkhan and all its districts have a unique and magnificent history behind them. It has hosted all civilizations and has justified pride. In this respect, we know that these lands have experienced many disasters and disasters in thousands of years of history. Now, just in this process, we will be in a tremendous struggle with our esteemed political elders, our friends, our very esteemed Hatay Metropolitan Mayor Lütfi Savaş, our deputies and other mayors, in order to bring these lands back to their feet. Together, we will prepare the future of this country with a solidarity that makes you feel that you are with the people who know how to get up from where they fell, look to the future and good days with confidence, and experience their pain without losing their faith. I sincerely believe that we will overcome this. I wish that this coordination mind, this common ground of thought, this solidarity, this meeting will bring good results to our city and the disaster area, and I sincerely thank everyone who contributed. Thank you, exist.”

SAVAŞ: “IF THEY WANT, WE SHARE ALL OF OUR PLANS WITH AFAD”

Savaş, the mayor of the city, who experienced the disaster in the great earthquake, said, “Let each of our district mayors coming from Istanbul give one person to the Coordination Center. Our Provincial President should take one person from each district and coordinate with the Coordination Center, and at the same time ensure that a provincial vice president works with them. The Coordination Center asks us every day, 'What did we do today? What is the latest status? We would appreciate it if they could send what we plan tomorrow. Apart from this, it would be better if a meeting is held every 3 days to include us. We would like to meet with AFAD once a week. I will talk too. Ekrem Bey also speaks. If they want, we can share all our activities and plans with them," he said.
