'E-Lion Project' from Peugeot on the Path to Fully Electrification

Peugeot announced its targets and strategies for the brand's transition to electric at the E-Lion Day, which was held as part of the E-Lion Project. Peugeot's approach to electrification was introduced as the E-Lion Project. The Peugeot E-Lion Project, which is a well-researched response to the needs of the changing world, will guide the next generation of Peugeot models to meet these needs. The E-Lion Project is not just about the transition to electrification, it is a 5 degree holistic project approach based on 360 pillars.

The 5 key elements of the Peugeot E-Lion Project are as follows:

“Ecosystem: An ecosystem of products and services in line with STLA goals. Experience: The complete end-to-end customer experience, from charging to connectivity. Electricity: Commitment to have an all-battery electric range by 2025. Efficiency: Target to maximize performance and minimize kilowatt consumption (208 kWh/12,5 kilometers for the E-100). Environment: Target to be net 2038 carbon by 0.”

Peugeot to launch 2 new electric vehicles in 5 years

During the next 2 years, 5 new Peugeot models will be launched. Together with the e-308, Europe's first electric station model e-308 SW, e-408, e-3008 and e-5008 will form these 5 models. The electric 308 and 308 SW will hit the road with a new electric motor producing 115 kW (156 hp) and a range of over 400 kilometers (WLTP cycle). This model stands out as a very assertive option with its average energy consumption of 12,7 kWh and the best efficiency level in the segment.

New hybrid technology

Peugeot is also introducing new hybrid technology with the MHEV 48V. This year, the brand will make an assertive entry into this field with the 208, 2008, 308, 3008, 5008 and 408 models. Peugeot Hybrid 48V system; It consists of a new generation 100 hp or 136 hp PureTech petrol engine, electric motor (21 kW) and a unique 6-speed electric dual-clutch transmission (E-DCS6).

Thanks to a battery that charges while driving, this technology provides higher low-speed torque and a 15 percent reduction in fuel consumption (at 3008 g CO126/km in the 2 model). Thus, a C-segment SUV equipped with a hybrid system can spend more than 50 percent of the time in zero-emission, all-electric mode in city driving. At the same time, it is possible to drive in zero emission mode in city driving.

Next generation C-SUV

The Peugeot e-3008 will be introduced in the second half of 2023, with a range of up to 3 kilometers with 700 electric powertrains, including a twin engine. The e-3008 will be the first car to be brought to market with the high-tech STLA Mid-Length platform. The e-5008 will also be introduced right after the model.

Peugeot's new BEV-by-design series

Product design and technological innovations in the Peugeot E-Lion Project will play a crucial role in the goal of net 2038 carbon by 0. STLA technology solutions also make the in-cab experience easier. The central intelligence of the car's nerve center, Stla-Brain, will be able to be loaded over the air (OTA). Stla-smartcockpit will complete your digital life inside and outside the cabin. Stla-autodrive will name the future of autonomous driving. Collaborations with the world's leading players like Amazon and Foxconn ensure that new technology is always presented as a great experience.

Peugeot divides GWP (Global Warming Potential) into 2 with next 4 vehicle generations

Ongoing initiatives range from sourcing and supply chain strategies to the car's overall composition and structure, to the materials used. For example, light and glass replace black and chrome, focus on the use of recycled materials, including lightweight seats and alloy wheels, and design new generation products with a global lifecycle strategy.

Global Life Cycle: In the future, a battery electric car will have a lifespan of 20 to 25 years. Today, the lifespan of an internal combustion car is about 15 years. This extended lifecycle is a great opportunity for designers to imagine new interactions with products throughout their lifetime. The “Life Cycle Design” approach has 4 stages:

“1-Lifespan: Architecture designed to last 25 years based on the Stellantis platform and applications. 2-Refurbishment: Refurbishing and recycling important parts, including the use of recycled parts. 3-Update: Renewing important “wearing” parts of the vehicle, such as upholstery and trim, as in the Conception concept, to keep the vehicle looking like new every time it changes hands. 4-Depending on demand: Wireless refresh of HMI, lighting and other software-driven components at regular intervals, like in smartphones, to maintain the attractiveness of the car.”

Focusing on minimizing weight, waste and the production process brings along innovative techniques, as in the example of the Peugeot inception concept, which has 4 key principles of sustainability:

Easy charging: With Free2Move e-Solutions and its end-to-end service solution, home charging is solved with the home type Wallbox. Thanks to the access to Europe's largest charging network (350 thousand stations) via the e-Solutions card, it can also be charged on the go. The “tap and go” RFID card covers multiple energy distributors and can even be preloaded with off-the-shelf credit.

Easy planning: The “Peugeot Trip Planner” app helps plan the best place to recharge during the trip. Future-proof solutions include dedicated food, shopping and activity areas near charging points to optimize the time customers spend charging.

Total planning for net 0 carbon targets

Peugeot is on track to meet its goal of being net 2038 carbon by 0. It foresees reducing the global warming potential by 2030 percent worldwide and 60 percent in Europe by 70. The net 0 carbon plan goes beyond all-electricity with the following approaches:

PEUGEOT Electric Model Range

In addition, it is approaching with the 6R strategy to renew vehicles and parts and to design and extend the life of vehicles with “retrophit” programs to convert vehicles to battery electric. Stellantis dealers can see “remanufactured” parts in parts catalogues and offer them to customers as sustainable parts at an affordable price.

Both commercial and retail customers can see the "reuse" process on Stellantis' e-commerce platform called B-Parts (Currently available in 155 countries with 5,2 million parts). Apart from this, the SUSTAINera label will begin to appear in customers' CE factories. This label is already used on parts boxes and will be applied to vehicles as well.

When customers see this label, they can be sure that up to 80 percent less raw materials and up to 50 percent less energy are used in the production of that part, compared to the equivalent part that does not contain any recycled content.
