Within the scope of the protocol signed between the Turkish Space Agency and the Ministry of National Education, 100 students from the science and art centers where gifted students are trained receive hands-on training on space travel at Space Camp Turkey.

The camp in Izmir, one of the two space camps licensed by the US Space Sciences Exhibition Commission; It welcomes a large number of space enthusiast children, young people and adults from different countries.

100 students and 20 teachers studying at BİLSEMs in different cities of Turkey, with the organization of the Turkish Space Agency and the General Directorate of Special Education and Guidance Services, participated in the 5-day program of the camp due to the semester break.

Experience flight like astronauts

In the camp where theoretical information about space is given, students experience walking on the Moon, where the gravity is less than on Earth, with a simulator. Students, who experience how an astronaut takes a step on the Moon with special devices, also experience the walk visually with the virtual reality glasses they wear. In the multi-axis simulator, on the other hand, the sense of loss of place and direction that astronauts can experience in space is conveyed.

Participants of the camp participate in a 1-hour virtual space flight mission

In the mission carried out simultaneously on three simulators, namely the space shuttle, ground control center and international space base, astronauts and the earth and space base officials seek solutions together for the successful completion of the flight scenario. In the mission, where the astronauts experience what they experience during the flight, the participants are also tried to gain skills such as teamwork and problem solving.

The program, which was carried out to increase the knowledge and awareness of students in the field of space sciences and technologies and to encourage them to plan their careers in space, will end with a graduation ceremony on Friday, February 3rd. On the other hand, at the camp, students from the age group of 9-15 are offered practical training in space sciences and technologies, as well as different space camp programs throughout the year, with 2, 5 and 6-day program options.
