Üsküdar University NPİSTANBUL Hospital Specialist Clinical Psychologist Eda Ergür evaluated the school refusal in some children, days before the end of the two-week vacation.

Specialist Clinical Psychologist Eda Ergür, who stated that school refusal seen in school-age children is a behavior of not wanting to go to school and not going to school, said, “The child expresses this in a physical, emotional and behavioral way. The child does not want to leave the house, from the moment he wakes up in the morning, it is understood that he does not want to go to school. He has difficulty getting out of bed and waking up, these difficulties can be seen at the beginning of school life as well as at any period of his education life. he said.

Specialist Clinical Psychologist Eda Ergür, who noted that it is important to identify the underlying cause in order to help the child who has difficulty in going to school and refuses to go to school, said, “The reason why the child does not want to go to school is a change in school or class, a problem with friends or the approach of the teacher. It could be a situation. In addition, attitudes and problems in the family can cause school refusal.” warned.

Noting that the child's not being ready for school and his/her own qualifications not being suitable for his/her academic life may also lead to school refusal, Eda Ergür said, "The child's mental, social, emotional and physical development not being ready for school may be one of the underlying reasons." said.

Specialist Clinical Psychologist Eda Ergür, pointing out the importance of talking to the child who does not want to go to school and enabling them to express their own feelings, said, “In this way, the child both feels understood and helps us to guide him in solving the problem. Young children may have a hard time explaining. In such cases, it is possible to reach his inner world by playing with toys or drawing pictures. After determining the source of the problem, it would be appropriate to strengthen the communication within the family if the problem originates from within the family, and to make arrangements to solve the problems in the school by establishing cooperation with the school if it is caused by the school. he said.
