The animals that were rescued from the debris in the earthquake zone and left unattended by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality teams were brought to the Pako Stray Animals Social Life Campus. Cats, dogs and birds treated by veterinarians will soon regain their health.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality continues its efforts to heal the wounds of the earthquake disaster, the epicenter of which is Kahramanmaraş and affecting 10 provinces. Continuing to support in many areas, the Metropolitan Municipality teams rescued 300 animals from the wreckage in the disaster area. The stray animals rescued from the wreckage in Osmaniye and Hatay by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Veterinary Affairs Branch Directorate and the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality search and rescue teams were brought to the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Pako Stray Animals Social Life Campus.

300 animals rescued

Umut Polat, Director of the Veterinary Affairs Branch, stated that the teams rescued about 300 cats and dogs from the wreckage. Umut Polat said that 3 cats in Osmaniye, 9 dogs and two budgies in Hatay were brought to İzmir after they were removed from the wreckage because their owners could not be reached. We started their care. We did their treatment. We will work to help these orphans get over their trauma. In particular, we will enable them to socialize in order to eliminate their fears and uneasiness. We will try to reach the owners of these creatures. We will try to host those we haven't reached here and find a warm home," he said.

Pako Stray Animals Social Life Campus employees, who named the budgerigar rescued from the wreckage as Can and the canary as Umut, are closely interested in the birds they take to their offices.

Service with mobile devices

Umut Polat also said that they went to the region by mobile service vehicle right after the earthquake and said, “After a short time, we sent a second mobile vehicle to the region. In addition, we delivered fattening feed to the villagers so that those living in rural areas do not suffer. We have sent approximately 5 tons of cat and dog food, 25 tons of fattening feed and 25 bales of alfalfa to the region.”
