Loss of life in the earthquake rose to 8 thousand 574

The number of casualties is increasing in the destruction caused by the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş in the provinces of Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır, Adana, Adıyaman, Osmaniye, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya and Elazığ. President of the AKP, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, made statements from the Kahramanmaraş earthquake zone. In his statement, Erdogan said that the number of deaths increased to 8 thousand 574 and that 49 thousand 133 of our citizens were injured.

Highlights from Erdogan's statements are as follows:

“The earthquake disaster struck 10 of our well-known provinces. And the center of these 10 provinces was Kahramanmaraş. We experienced the first step of the earthquake in Kahramanmaraş from here, and after that, this happened in waves in our 10 provinces. As of now, unfortunately, the number of deceased is 8 thousand 574. The number of injured is 49 thousand 133. The number of destroyed buildings is 6 thousand 744.

Our work on the wreckage continues. On the one hand, it will begin to carry out debris removal works. Our goal is to carry out these operations in Kahramanmaraş and 9 other provinces in the same way, if we, as TOKİ, immediately carried out these operations in the provinces where we experienced other disasters within a year.

We held meetings with hotels in the future, such as Antalya, Alanya, Mersin. If there are citizens who put their desire to stay in the hotels there, we are ready to place them in the hotels in these cities.

My citizens may not be satisfied with these tents. If they say yes to settle in the hotels here, we will mobilize all our means.

Hopefully, as of now, we will make some preparations and give our support to the families with damage assessments.

As of now, we have allocated a certain budget from the Treasury Finance.

With this budget, we have planned the amount that will relieve each of our families in this process, as 10 thousand liras, and we will deliver them to the families.”
