President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that the death toll in the earthquake region of Gaziantep has increased to 14 thousand 14.

Here are some headlines from Erdogan's speech:

“Yesterday, I visited Kahramanmaraş, the epicenter of the earthquake, then Hatay, then Adana, together with some of its districts.

According to the latest findings, the total number of our citizens who lost their lives in the debris caused by the earthquake reached 14 thousand 14. The number of our injured is 63 thousand 794. And our debris removal works continue intensively. The number of destroyed buildings was determined as 6 thousand 444.

Our goal is to rebuild our buildings in 1 year. Together with the damage assessment, we will provide 10 thousand liras in cash assistance to our citizens for the transition process. We want to alleviate some of your troubles. We have containers to come to the region. We will distribute them by 10. Our caravan work continues. They will also be used in some regions.

There are those who want to turn the process into political exploitation. My citizens will never allow this. Today, we will announce the state of emergency law in the parliament. I took my name and it was published in the Official Gazette. The state of emergency will come into effect today. The state will have the opportunity to intervene with the state of emergency against those who abuse this process, commit corruption and moneylenders.

In some places, unfortunately, there is looting in the markets. They will have the opportunity to intervene with the state of emergency.

Thank you to all my people for showing sensitivity and trusting us. Don't worry about this, we will quickly build our houses in 10 provinces and deliver them to their owners, just as we have survived in Van, Bingöl, Elazığ, Malatya and İzmir so far.”
