Is SMA Test Mandatory for Newly Married Couples?

Health Minister Dr. Fahrettin Koca made a new statement about SMA disease from his social media account.

Minister Koca made a statement on his Twitter account, “The SMA test is mandatory for every couple preparing for marriage. The test is applied to each of the newborn babies due to the advantage of early diagnosis and treatment. If you have not been tested before, we insist on SMA testing if you are considering having a baby. The SMA test is free at your Family Health Center and hassle-free as only a blood sample is sufficient. Please discuss the matter with your spouse and make an appointment with your GP to go together.” made statements.
