After the earthquake disaster that affected 10 provinces, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality started a “Movement of Hope” in which all İzmir residents would be involved. After the earthquake, the epicenter of which was Kahramanmaraş and affecting 10 provinces, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality took action immediately. In the morning hours, many aid vehicles and materials were sent to the region, from earthquake container vehicles to fire sprinkler, from mobile food trucks to food packages.
“We are launching the first campaign”
President Tunç Soyeralso met with the members of the Izmir Economic Development Coordination Board (İEKKK), deputies, district mayors, non-governmental organizations and representatives of professional chambers in the morning. Announcing that they started a campaign called the Movement of Hope for the collection and rapid delivery of the materials needed in the region, President Soyer said, “On the one hand, we have works to continue through AFAD. On the other hand, there are studies that we will continue as civil society and local administrations. We are determined to continue these two studies in coordination and hand in hand. We are rapidly launching a 'Movement of Hope'. This movement consists of blankets, heaters, boots, coats, cleaning materials, hygiene kits and similar materials that need to be delivered very urgently. We will ensure that our citizens buy from these, and we will increase the amount they buy by one fold and reach the earthquake zone. This is how we are launching the first campaign across Izmir.”
Those who want to support the campaign will be able to purchase the amount of support they want from the support packages offered at Umuthareketi.izmir.bel.tr. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will deliver the solidarity packages of the benevolent citizens to the region along with its institutional support.

Stating that they started to work very quickly from the moment of the earthquake, President Soyer said, “We met with our Aegean Army Commander. Blankets, heaters, tents and containers must be delivered urgently. We sent the material to be directed urgently by cargo plane via AFAD. We had a meeting with Faruk Güler, our Aegean Free Zone President, and a 250-seat passenger plane will be here in 2,5-3 hours. Again, we will send our search and rescue teams and aid materials, which need to reach urgently, by this plane. We put our mobile food truck and mobile hospital on the road, mobile internet will also go, we are putting our support teams consisting of sociologists and psychologists on the road tomorrow morning, mobile toilets are on the way. The storage area for the materials to be delivered with the campaign will be Fair İzmir. Our citizens of Izmir have already started to deliver aid materials. İzmir showed great solidarity during the earthquake, and this is much needed now. We are facing a great catastrophe. "We have to scale up this campaign," he said.
