After the severe earthquake in Kahramanmaraş, IMM teams healed the wounds in Hatay, where they were matched with the guidance of AFAD, and also intervened in the fire in Iskenderun Port. The fire, which was brought under control, flared up again and was brought under control again. Work continues on cooling the fire.
The 7.7-magnitude earthquake, the epicenter of which was in the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş, and the aftershocks that followed, caused a fire as well as destruction in the İskenderun district of Hatay.
After the earthquake, at around 17.00 on Monday, one of the containers in the warehouse at the Iskenderun Port overturned for an unknown reason and caught fire. The smoke rising from the growing fire due to its spread to the environment was seen from many points of Iskenderun district.
Reaching Iskenderun, the IMM Fire Department started to respond to the fire that broke out in the overturned containers in the port. The fire was brought under control with the intervention of extinguishing vehicles belonging to the Istanbul Fire Department, the Regional Directorate of Forestry and BOTAŞ. However, the fire, which flared up again a few hours later, was brought under control with intense effort. Cooling works continue in the region.
