China has completed the first nationwide survey of risks related to natural disasters. The nationwide survey took place between 2020 and 2022 and included 5 million people.

Zheng Guoguang, Secretary General of the National Commission for Disaster Prevention of China, announced that through the survey, extensive data on natural disasters were collected.

The survey-based research identified potential hazards throughout the country and gave a clear idea of the capacity to respond to potential natural disasters in certain regions. In this context, Zheng stated that the survey provides a solid foundation for the assessment of disaster risks and their post-disaster localization.

On the other hand, data on 1949 important disasters such as earthquakes, floods, hurricanes and forest fires that have occurred in the country since 89 and the measures to combat them were analyzed. Zheng also said that he created a database containing information about all the buildings of the country by using the data obtained.

The government survey research group is collaborating with relevant government departments and local authorities to build a national database of natural disasters to support China's efforts to prevent and control disasters.
