Who is Christian Atsu?

Christian Atsu (born 10 January 1992, Atsu, Ada Foah, Greater Accra Region – Died February 2023, Hatay) is a Ghanaian former international football player who played in the striker area. Lastly, he played in Hatayspor, one of the Super League teams.

Club career

Oporto

Atsu moved to Porto at the age of 17 after finishing his football formation with the club. On 14 May 2011, he was drafted by the head team coach André Villas-Boas in the Primeira Liga match against Marítimo. However, he finished the match on the bench.

Teammate Kelvin and Atsu were loaned to Rio Ave, which are competing in the same league, for the 2011-12 season. He played his first game in the league on 28 August 2011 against Olhanense, where they lost 1-0 at home. Although Atsu scored his first goal against Benfica in the 16th minute at Işık Stadium on 2011 December 24 and put his team ahead, the team lost the game 5-1.

Chelsea

On 1 September 2013 Atsu signed a five-year contract with Chelsea for a £3,5m transfer fee, then was immediately loaned to Dutch club SBV Vitesse until the end of the 2013-14 season.

On loan to Vitesse

On October 6, 2013, Atsu made his debut against Feyenoord, replacing Kazaishvili in the 77th minute. Although he had an assist to Mike Havenaar, he could not prevent Vitesse from losing 2-1. On October 19, Atsu made his first starting lineup against SC Heerenveen and Vitesse won the match 11-3. On loan to Bournemouth

On 29 May 2015 Atsu was loaned to newly promoted Bournemouth to the Premier League. Club CEO Neill Blake described the deal as a "huge blow". He made his team debut on 25 August against Hartlepool United, which they defeated 4-0 in the second round of the League Cup. Atsu's other team match was at Preston North End, where they beat them in the next round. He was recalled by Chelsea on 1 January 2016 without playing any game for Bournemouth in the league.

On loan to Malaga

The following year, he was called up to the Africa Cup of Nations squad in South Africa. He started in the starting 2 in the Congo DC game, where they drew 2-11, and was later substituted in the 1-0 win against Mali.
