In Adıyaman, one of the provinces most affected by the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, a container city is being established in a large area to meet the shelter needs of the disaster victims.

Those whose houses were destroyed or severely damaged in the earthquake continue to live in tent cities set up in many parts of the city.

The studies initiated to enable earthquake victims to live in container cities under the coordination of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and AFAD continue.

In the container city, which is under construction in Altınşehir District, the infrastructure of 700 containers has been completed and started to be placed.
Asphalt construction was also started by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure in some stages where the containers were placed.

Team of 200 people working

The coordinator of the container city, civil engineer Murat Worker, said that the installation work of the containers continues at full speed.

Stating that 1815 container houses will be placed in the city to be established in the region, Worker said, “This place will be a living space with clean and dirty water lines, electricity and solar panels. Hopefully, we are doing our best with a team of 200 people and 50-60 machines so that the earthquake victims can return to their normal lives in a very short time.” said.

Stating that the work continues for 24 hours with the mobilization of the teams from the regions, Worker said:

“Asphalt came from Diyarbakir region, machines came from Adana, Elazig and different provinces. We are working on a 24-hour basis so that our citizens here can return to their social lives as soon as possible. We do not have the luxury of standing here, we act with our people in mind.”

Murat Worker gave the following information about container houses:

“It is quite spacious with a compartment, bathroom, toilet and heater, it is not as spacious as their previous lives, but in general, it will be a place where they can continue their lives. Our Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Adil Karaismailoğlu, is with us without sleeping for 24 hours, and AFAD officials are struggling here. We want to place and finish the houses with a very crowded team. This place consists of 1815 containers. Currently, the infrastructure of 700 containers has been completed and started to settle in order. Our citizens will be sitting here in a short time. 1815 containers will be placed in this area and we will have completely finished this area in 20-25 days.”
