57 People Arrested in Looting in the Earthquake Zone

Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ announced that 75 thefts and looting incidents were intervened in the earthquake region and 57 people were arrested.

The headlines from Bozdağ's statements are as follows:

“The cases in the earthquake zone will be postponed for 2 months. An intensive work is being carried out by the Public Prosecutor's Office in order to rapidly initiate and conduct judicial investigations in the provinces where the earthquake occurred, and to detain the suspects who are thought to be responsible.

75 suspects were prosecuted for 64 theft and looting incidents, 57 were arrested, and judicial control was ruled for 7 suspects.

Action was taken against 134 suspects on the grounds that they were responsible for the buildings destroyed in the earthquakes, and 3 were arrested. In the investigation, 7 people were detained, 7 suspects were banned from leaving the country.

The detention period, which is 24 hours for theft and looting crimes, will be applied as 4 days. This change has been made in order to effectively fight theft and looting crimes.”
