Dentist Murat İnce lists the mistakes made in oral and dental health as follows;

Opening Bottle Caps or Packaging with Teeth

Using your teeth to open bottle caps or packaging is a tooth-damaging habit. This habit can cause your teeth to wear, break or even crack.

Using the Toothbrush for a Long Time

Toothbrushes have a maximum lifespan of 3 months. In terms of the health of teeth and gums, it would be correct to replace toothbrushes every three months. At the end of 3 months, visible deformations will begin on the toothbrush. The opening of the bristles of the brush to the sides can be considered as an indication that your brush has completed its life. As a result of the wear of the brush, the teeth cannot be cleaned correctly and healthily. Bacteria and food residues may also accumulate on the brush due to long use. Therefore, it is recommended to replace the brushes every 3 months.

Consuming Acidic Foods and Drinks

Acidic foods and drinks can cause stomach ailments, as well as cause many complaints on dental health. Acidic foods and drinks can damage teeth at any age, but they cause significant damage to teeth, especially during adolescence. The more acidic a drink or food is, the weaker the enamel will be. After consuming acidic beverages and foods, the acid in the mouth should be neutralized as quickly as possible. The mouth can be rinsed with plenty of water or by chewing sugar-free gum, saliva secretion can be increased and the acid in the mouth can be neutralized.

Not Using Dental Floss

Brushing your teeth regularly is insufficient for your oral and dental health. Since the interfaces of the teeth cannot be cleaned by brushing and cause tiny interface caries to form, these caries progress and pave the way for the formation of larger caries in the mouth. Food residues between the teeth must be removed with dental floss after brushing. Thus, effective oral cleaning will be achieved.

Unhealthy eating

Our diet is directly related to our oral and dental health. Small adjustments we will make in our eating habits can protect us from harm that may occur for our oral and dental health. Foods containing carbohydrates contain simple sugars such as glucose and fructose. Sugars from carbohydrates cause rapid acid formation in the mouth and cause dissolution of the minerals in the tooth and damage to the tooth. The longer the food stays on the tooth, the higher the damage rate will be. Care should be taken not to consume sugary and sticky foods, and teeth should be brushed after consumption.
