Samsun Smart City Traffic Safety System Saved 182 Thousand Liters of Fuel

The Smart City Traffic Safety project is making a name for itself in every aspect. The system, which significantly relieves the traffic and makes it safer, saved 19 thousand liters of fuel in 182 days. It also saved about 2 kilos in the amount of CO346 (Carbon Dioxide) gas.

Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, which implemented the Smart City Traffic Safety project, changed the architectural structure of the intersections within the scope of the project, and brought 76 intersections to an adaptive system. 9 Variable Message Systems (VMS) were placed on Atatürk Boulevard, Eastern Ring Road and Samsun Ankara State Highway, and the infrastructure for systemic data transfer was prepared. In order for the established system to function properly and to prevent violations, an Electronic Supervision System (EDS) consisting of 14 Average Speed Corridors (OHS), 19 red light violations and 31 parking violations was designed and manufactured. The commissioning processes of OHS and EDSs continue.

With the activation of the system, the intersections worked in coordination with each other, and this system resulted in a decrease in the amount of carbon gas and fuel use. Thanks to artificial intelligence, in the censuses made between December 1, 2022 and December 19, 2022, the fuel savings amounted to 181 liters and the carbon gas savings amounted to approximately 345 kilograms.

Expressing that there was a serious relief in traffic with the introduction of the system, Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Demir said, “We are very happy to have realized this project for Samsun. Together, we witness that the traffic flows faster and becomes safer. Another advantage of this system is that it reduces carbon emissions and saves fuel. The feedback we receive from our citizens after the system is activated is always positive. The satisfaction of our citizens is more important to us than anything else," he said.
