Stating that most people started working at home with the pandemic, Assoc. Dr. Efekan Coşkunseven said, “We started to receive training from home. This has increased our dependence on tablets and computers. Unfortunately, there is a period like puberty, menopause and andropause that we all have to go through. We call this the presbyopia period. Unfortunately, after the age of 40-45, we have to use close glasses. Now we have a chance to go on with our lives without using close glasses.”
“It is not possible to detect the lens from the outside”
Stating that the most current treatment today is smart lenses, Assoc. Dr. Coşkunseven said, “We call it trifocal or edof lenses with a special structure. It is possible to see up close with these lenses. Previously, there was an issue with these lenses that our patients complained about a lot. When we put these lenses in after cataract surgeries, patients complained that these lenses were noticed from the outside. In new lenses made in new technologies, this situation has now been eliminated and it is almost impossible to notice the lens from the outside. Patients may also have the chance to see far, middle and near, and they can get used to it in a very short time. The operation takes about 5-10 minutes. Our patients do not need to lie down after the operation and they can return to their social lives immediately.”
“It has the same features as cataract surgery”
“This method can be applied to patients who are in the age of cataracts and have cataracts, as well as to patients over the age of 40-45 who do not have or have little cataracts,” said Assoc. Dr. Coşkunseven said, “While various other methods were used before, the most up-to-date and most accepted method in the world is the use of lenses with the features we call trifocal and edof. This surgery actually has the same features as a cataract surgery, and patients who have undergone this surgery do not need to undergo cataract surgery again. One of the most common complaints of the patients was that these eyes glowed like a cat's eye when other people looked at them from the outside. At night, when they sat in a restaurant, it bothered them that other people around them realized that there was an operation. Now, thanks to these special lenses, this situation has almost disappeared. The effect of night light scatter is greatly reduced. The most important issue here is to choose the right lens for the right patient. There are special methods and devices that can investigate this. With these devices, we decide which lens to choose for which patient. Whether the patient has undergone laser treatment before, or whether there is any other problem in the cornea, these are evaluated. In the light of these, patients are helped by choosing the right lens according to their characteristics.
