Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç SoyerIn line with the youth policy of İzmir, studies have been initiated regarding the application process for İzmir's 2026 European Youth Capital candidacy. Emphasizing the common mind, the Metropolitan Municipality met with youth organizations, non-governmental organizations, district municipalities representatives and independent youth workers and talked about the road map.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has started the candidacy application studies for Izmir to be the 2026 European Youth Capital. The Metropolitan Municipality, which held an all-day meeting with the participants representing the youth in İzmir, created the roadmap on the application method and strategy.

Interactive workshops were also held at the meeting, which included Social Projects Department, Youth Studies and Social Projects Branch Directorate officials, representatives of non-governmental organizations, participants from different directorates of the municipality, representatives from district municipalities and independent youth workers.

Studies on the 2026 European Youth Capital application will continue throughout the year with the cooperation of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality City Council Youth Assembly, with the relevant units of the Metropolitan Municipality, and a committee consisting of different institutions, organizations and organizations that carry out youth work.

İzmir made it to the finals with its candidacy for 2025 European Youth Capital.

Participation of young people in decision-making processes in the city will be increased.

Cities that are entitled to receive the title of European Youth Capitals set a role model for other municipalities in Europe with innovative projects. Cultural, social, political and economic events are held in these cities for a year with the participation of young people. With the title of European Youth Capital, it is aimed to increase the participation of young people in urban life and decision-making processes in the city.

Cities that won the title of European Youth Capitals: 2025 Lviv (Ukraine), 2024 Ghent (Belgium), 2023 Lublin (Poland), 2022 Tirana (Albania), 2021 Klapeda (Lithuania), 2020 Amiens (France).
