Open Data Portal of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality was the First

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç SoyerIn line with the "smart city" goal of 'Smart city, the open data portal, where data about Izmir is made available for free access, ranked first in the Local Governments Open Data Index made by the Open Data and Technology Association by getting the highest score in total in the evaluation of "Readiness, Implementation and Impact" dimensions.

The open data portal, which Izmir Metropolitan Municipality opened to free access to city-related data in January 2021 with a transparent, accountable and democratic management approach, is "Readiness, Implementation and Impact" in the Local Governments Open Data Index made by the Open Data and Technology Association (AVTED). It ranked first among all metropolitan cities by getting the highest overall score in the evaluation of dimensions. Outperforming Balıkesir, Bursa, Istanbul and Konya Metropolitan Municipalities, which have an open data portal, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality once again made a name for itself with its pioneering role in transparency and accountability.

Open data portal contains 177 datasets

There are 32 data sets from 177 organizations, including İzmir Metropolitan Municipality departments, ESHOT, İZSU, İZMİR METRO and İZBAN, on the open data portal, which contains data sets in different categories related to İzmir. The open data portal also responds to the needs of entrepreneurs who want to start a new business or develop their business.

Evaluation in three titles

Open Data and Technology Association (AVTED) evaluated three categories in total. First, the “Readiness Dimension” was discussed. In this category, information was obtained on whether the municipality has an open data vision, whether the work done overlaps with the goals of this vision, whether it is sustainable and whether there is a strategy that outlines the steps required to establish an open data program.

The second evaluation topic was “Application Dimension”. Here, the capabilities of the open data portal, the number of published data sets, their formats, information cards with details such as metadata and tags, and content such as the number of categories were taken into account. Finally, in the "Impact Dimension", it was evaluated what kind of projects were developed that would contribute to both the institution and the city, whether it contributed to the municipality in terms of new employment, savings and innovation, and whether the awareness and participation of local stakeholders and the public were achieved.
