After the air temperature in Istanbul was above the seasonal norms and after months without precipitation, the waters in the dams receded. İSTAÇ, a subsidiary of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), regularly cleans the dams as the water recedes. 2 years ago, İSTAÇ, which cleaned the environment again with the withdrawal of water, removed a total of 40 tons of waste from the dams. This year, İSTAÇ is cleaning 7 dams that meet the water needs of Istanbul and are located within the provincial borders. The cleaned dams are listed as follows: Terkos Dam, Alibey Dam, Ömerli Dam, Elmalı Dam, Sazlıdere Dam, Darlık Dam and Büyükçekmece Dam.
THE NUMBER OF TEAM IS INCREASING EVERY DAY
Stating that they plan to complete the dam cleaning in Istanbul in about a week, İSTAÇ General Manager Ziya Gökmen Togay said, “Our teams, which landed on the field with 74 vehicles and 420 personnel on the first day, started to clean 7 dams in total. We increased the number of personnel to 476 and increased to 83 vehicles according to the needs. We will evaluate the garbage generated in the dam basin by sending it to the recycling and composting facility. We demand from the citizens not to throw garbage both in nature and in the dams that meet the water needs of Istanbul.” İSTAÇ General Manager Ziya Gökmen Togay said, “We observed that the water in the dam basins decreased considerably with the decrease in precipitation in Istanbul. For this reason, our duty as citizens is to be aware of the limited resources and to use these resources sparingly” and drew attention to the efficient use of water in Istanbul.
