Approval has been granted for the major project that aims to connect the riverbanks in the Chetr Borei region, in eastern Cambodia's Kratie province. The bridge, which is 1.761 meters long and 13,5 meters wide, is expected to open in 2026, according to the Khmer Times newspaper. Most of the $114 million cost will be borne by China. 32 kilometers of road will be built to connect the bridge to the main traffic roads.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Cambodia's leader Hun Sen praised the excellent relations with China and thanked Beijing for funding important infrastructure projects in the kingdom.

This year Cambodia and China are celebrating the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations. For a long time, China has been supporting the infrastructure investments of countries in Southeast Asia and Africa.
