E-Commerce Growth Over the Year
E-Commerce Grows 10 Times in 50 Years

Digital stores will realize the total sales they made in one year in 2013, 10 years later in 2023 in just 5 days.
The e-commerce sector, which improves itself every year with the change in shopping habits in Turkey, aims to set historical records in 2023 as well.

Reports on the size of the e-commerce market in Turkey were first published in 2013 by the Informatics Industry Association (TÜBİSAD).

In the 2013 report of TUBISAD, Turkey's e-commerce market size was announced as 14 billion TL.

Although the figures for 2022 have not been officially announced yet, the e-commerce market is expected to reach 700 billion TL.

In this case, the increase in e-commerce will be 10 times in 50 years.

TRILLION NUMBERS WILL BE SEEN FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2023

In the sector, which aims to grow in the range of 2023-50 percent in 60, trillions will begin to be pronounced for the first time. The 2023 market size target of digital stores will be 1,1 trillion TL.

Guclu Kayral, co-founder of Turkey's first cash-back shopping site Advantageix.com, underlined that daily e-commerce sales will be 2023 billion TL in 3 and gave the following information:

“This means that we will achieve the annual e-commerce figures in 2013 in just 2023 days in 5. In 2023, when compared to the population aged 18-70, annual e-commerce expenditure per person will be 16 thousand TL. In 2022, the biggest change on a sectoral basis was in airlines. The sector, which has regressed considerably due to the pandemic, has started to approach its former strength rapidly with an increase of 400 percent this year. In 2023, the highest proportional growth will be experienced in the airlines, accommodation, travel-transportation, electronics, clothing-shoes-accessories, food-supermarkets, catering and white goods sectors, respectively.”

NUMBER OF DIGITAL STORES FROM 263 TO 700K

Güçlü Kayral stated that the change in people's shopping habits and the interest in digital stores are also reflected in the number of businesses operating in the e-commerce sector, adding, “10 years ago in 2013, the number of businesses operating in the e-commerce market was only 1,263. This figure rose to 2022 thousand in 500. In 2023, we expect at least 700 thousand enterprises to operate in the sector.”

ADVANTAGES OF ONLINE SHOPPING

Noting that the change in the shopping habits of working women and those over 50 plays a role in the growth of digital shopping, Kayral said, “Online shopping has many advantages. Shopping is done 24 hours a day from all over the world. Instead of visiting the market for hours, the most affordable product can be found on comparison sites in a few seconds. Holidays, meals, events are brought very cheaply using opportunity sites. In addition, those who make all their shopping through the sites that give money as they shop, such as Advantageix.com, make extra income," he said.
