Mutlu Gürler, Head of Earthquake Risk Management and Urban Improvement Department, stated that as Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, they organize trainings throughout the city to raise awareness about disasters and attract the attention of younger generations on this issue.

“In order to raise awareness about disasters, we have launched an education campaign all over Ankara to raise awareness about disasters, especially the younger generations of our society. In our work with AFAD, we also want to add new soldiers to the Disaster Volunteer army of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality. We see and get to know our friends who have demands and knowledge in this direction. We take their requests. We want to raise the disaster volunteer army of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality to a new level by inviting them to other trainings after the application. Our target was 1000 disaster volunteers, we came very close to that. We will continue with new programs in the coming weeks.”

Explaining to the students what to do during and after the earthquake, AFAD Provincial Emergency Instructor Türkmen Öztürk said, “We told our students what to do during and during the earthquake in the trainings we organized at schools.”

The training, which was held with the participation of 410 students, ended with an earthquake drill.
