Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Prof. Dr. Vahit Kirişci said, “The pearl of Çoruh, Yusufeli Dam, will generate the energy of the Century of Turkey. It is planned to start electricity generation at full capacity in December this year or in February 2024 at the Yusufeli Dam, which is the sweat of the mind of Turkish engineers. said.

Minister Kirişci came to Yusufeli Dam and HEPP in Artin's Yusufeli district and received information from the authorities.

Kirişci later told reporters that Yusufeli Dam and HEPP were put into service by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on November 22, 2022, and that the project, which was completed after a long and difficult process, included the costs of construction, electromechanical, expropriation, resettlement and other activities with a total of 34 He said it cost billions of dollars.

Noting that the storage capacities have been constantly increased in order to provide resistance against the effects of climate change, Kirişci said, “While the number of dams was 2002 in 276, this number has reached 992 today. Ilisu Prof. Dr. Giant facilities such as Veysel Eroğlu, Deriner, Ermenek, Obruk, Reyhanlı, Çine Adnan Menderes and Akköprü are just a few of our dams. All of these projects are very important, but Yusufeli Dam and HEPP is one of the symbolic works of the Turkish Century with its splendor and splendor.” he said.

Pointing out that the most important thing that needs to be done in order to meet Turkey's energy needs and avoid being dependent on foreign sources, Kirişci said:

“The most prominent resource among renewable energy sources for our country is hydroelectric energy, which transforms water into energy. Hydroelectric energy is the energy of the Turkish Century. The pearl of Çoruh, Yusufeli Dam, will generate the energy of the Century of Turkey. It is planned to start electricity production at full capacity in December this year or in February 2024 at the Yusufeli Dam, which is the sweat of the mind of Turkish engineers. The installed power of our dam is 558 megawatts, and the annual average energy production is 1 billion 900 million kilowatt hours. This amount is sufficient to meet the energy needs of 2,5 million people for one year. This amount of production means meeting the annual energy need of a city as big as Antalya.”

Minister Kirişci also noted that Yusufeli Dam and HEPP have the capacity to produce the energy of 750 thousand domestic and national automobiles TOGG.

“THE ANNUAL 5 BILLION LIRA WILL PROVIDE ADDED VALUE TO OUR ECONOMY”

Pointing out that it is a storage facility capable of adjusting the flow regime of the Çoruh River in order for the dams located downstream of Yusufeli Dam and HEPP to operate with the highest efficiency, Kirişci said, “It will increase the energy production capacities of Artvin, Deriner, Borcka and Muratlı dams downstream of Yusufeli Dam by approximately 15 percent. With the commissioning of Yusufeli Dam and HEPP, the total hydroelectric power generation capacity of our country will increase by 2 percent. It will provide an annual added value of 5 billion liras to our economy.” said.

Kirişci emphasized that Yusufeli Dam will significantly reduce the precipitation that the Çoruh River will bring, thereby prolonging the life of other dams and reducing the risk of flooding.

Reminding that water retention in Yusufeli Dam started on November 22, 2022, Kirişci said:

“So far, 73,16 million cubic meters of water has been stored and the water level has risen to 73 meters. 69 days have passed. Therefore, we can easily say that there is a water regime that rises one meter almost every day. In the next period, controlled water storage will continue. We are planning to start our test production on August 1, 20, with a maximum daily water rise of 2023 meter in the dam reservoir. At the end of 390 days, the maximum operating level of the dam, which is 710 meters, will be reached and energy production will begin at full capacity. The amount of water to be accumulated in the dam, whose total storage volume is approximately 2,1 billion cubic meters, means meeting the drinking and consumption consumed by İzmir in 6 years.”

YUSUFELI SETTLEMENT WORKS

Minister Kirişci said that the construction of Yusufeli was planned by taking the opinions of the citizens, and new settlements with a more modern urbanization were established that will set an example in many aspects.

Pointing out that they gave priority to the preservation of traditional and cultural urban life while planning the resettlement of Yusufeli, Kirişci stated that they attach importance to the environment and nature, and that they work with sensitivity and determination in close cooperation and coordination with other relevant ministries so that no citizen is victimized in any matter.

He stated that as a result of the works carried out in Kirişci, Sakut, Tekkale and Yansıticilar locations, the construction of 2 thousand 698 residences and 323 shops was completed, while 507 houses and 10 shops were completed in Tekkale, Cevreli, İşhan, Yeniköy, Çeltikdüzü, Meşecik and Irmakyanilar villages.

Pointing out that the works are continuing in Yusufeli, Kirişci said, “I would like to emphasize once again that everyone should be happy, not a single citizen will be victimized here.” used the phrase.

“WE DO NOT ALLOW A HAND OF LAND OF OUR COUNTRY TO BE WASTE”

Expressing that Artvin is known all over the world for its green, Minister Kirişci said:

“With the afforestation works we have started, we will hopefully make our new Yusufeli district look green in a few years. 14 thousand 250 trees have been planted here by DSI so far. In addition to this, it is aimed to plant 30 thousand square meters of grass. In addition, 81 thousand 280 saplings and 9 thousand 70 trees, some of which were removed from the old settlement and moved to the new settlement, were planted by our Regional Forestry Directorate. A total of 105 thousand trees were planted.”

Underlining that they do not allow fertile lands to be submerged under water, Kirişci said, “For this, we moved 1 million cubic meters of fertile agricultural land that will remain under the dam lake to the new settlement. The work of transporting 600 thousand cubic meters of soil continues. We will not allow even a handful of our country's land to be wasted. Fertile land suitable for agriculture and efficient use of water are the red lines.” he said.

Kirişci stated that 2 cemeteries that will be inundated have also been moved to new settlements.

Pointing out that barns were built for people who are engaged in animal husbandry, Kirişci said that an Animal Collection Center was built in Ardanuç district for new area arrangements and stray animals.

Noting that Yusufeli Dam is a giant project and not just a dam was built, Kirişci said, “110 kilometers of roads, 46 tunnels, 23 bridges and 141 culverts were built within the scope of Yusufeli Dam and HEPP Project. To make a comparison, a total of 2002 kilometers of tunnels were built in Turkey in 79 years, until 50, throughout the history of the Republic, and 62 kilometers of tunnels were built only within the scope of Yusufeli Dam and HEPP Project.” said.

After the statement, Minister Kirişci watched the bottom spillway downstream water release test and then toured the HEPP facility.

Within the scope of his visit to Yusufeli Dam and HEPP, Kirişci also met with the technical personnel and workers who contributed to the construction of the dam.

Visiting the new settlement of Yusufeli after his inspection at the dam, Minister Kirişci met with the citizens and listened to their problems and suggestions.
