President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan inaugurated the New Mosque, whose restoration was completed in Istanbul.

President Erdoğan left his residence in Kısıklı and went to the Yeni Mosque in Eminönü, where the opening ceremony will be held. In his speech at the opening ceremony, Erdogan said that they are on a Friday holiday today and that they have renovated the Yeni Mosque, which has been undergoing renovation, repair and restoration for a long time, on such a feast day.

Explaining that the construction of the New Mosque in Eminönü, which was started by Safiye Sultan, the wife of the Ottoman Sultan Murad III, was completed in 3 by Hatice Turhan Sultan, the mother of Sultan Mehmed IV, Erdoğan gave the following information about the restoration of the mosque:

“The restoration of the New Mosque, which has been frequented by millions of people for about 358 years, was started in 2016. In this context, 175 tons of lead in the eaves and domes of the mosque was replaced. The exterior has been completely cleaned. Body and portico walls have been strengthened. The interiors and exteriors that are not made with original materials have also been changed in accordance with the original. Corruptions and damages on marble jambs, moldings, balustrades and balustrades have been repaired. Among the historical tiles, the ones in bad condition were removed and strengthened, and the ones with cracks or loss of parts were completed with pencil works. The pencil works on the portico domes were reworked according to the restoration project.”

While praying in the mosque, Erdogan said that when he watched the dome on the ground, he saw a brand new New Mosque come into existence, praising God.

Thanking all the architects and craftsmen who contributed here on behalf of his person, the nation, the foundation organization, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Erdoğan said:

“Because the New Mosque is not a mosque to be put aside. Here is my memory too. While I was in the fourth grade of Imam Hatip School, we gave a sermon here with our Feyzullah Hodja on a Night of Power. He gave a sermon, then I continued, and I gave a sermon. Where did we come from? And Yeni Mosque has such a memory for us. May the Lord be our helper. May my Lord make our unity and solidarity permanent, and this unity will be our greatest holiday inshallah. I especially want you to continue on this path in our unity and togetherness. I entrust you to Allah. For all our martyrs, I say let's recite Fatiha."

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan opened the mosque by cutting ribbons with his entourage after the prayer of the Mufti of Istanbul Safi Arpagus.

During the ribbon cutting, Erdogan said, “I believe that our New Mosque will host all the Muslims of the world in this beautiful place, I hope, with unforgettable memories in service. O Allah, Bismillah." used the phrases.

Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Vahit Kirişci, AK Party vice presidents, deputies, mayors, Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya and citizens attended the opening.
