Developments in Paragliding Sector Discussed at FTSO

At the meeting held at Fethiye Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FTSO) with the participation of paragliding cooperative representatives and pilots, the latest developments in the sector, possible improvements and measures to be taken regarding the 2023 tourism season were discussed. Stating that they closed the year 2022 by breaking the all-time record in flight numbers, FTSO Chairman of the Board Osman Çıralı said that they wanted to be ready for another record year by making the necessary arrangements at the take-off and landing points and increasing the security measures to the highest level.

The meeting held at the FTSO Meğri Hall on January 20, 2023, together with Chairman Çıralı, Fethiye Tourism Information Bureau Manager Saffet Dündar, TÜRSAB Western Mediterranean Regional Representative Board Chairman Özgen Uysal, FTSO Assembly Member Ali Onur Ertaş, FTSO No. 9 Car Rental and Travel Agencies Vocational Services Committee Member Zafer Şekerci, Fethiye-Ölüdeniz Paragliding Pilots Cooperative President İbrahim Arıkan, paragliding pilots and sector representatives attended. At the meeting, the demands and suggestions of the sector representatives were recorded.

Stating that the number of companies carrying out paragliding activities in Ölüdeniz Neighborhood has increased rapidly, the sector representatives said that a new runway with an altitude of 1200 meters is needed as an alternative to the 1700 and 900 meter runways. Explaining that the problems related to take-off and landing points should be resolved, the participants noted that having to land in a restricted area at the end of a wide flight route with a diameter of 25-30 kilometers gave all pilots a hard time. Parachute pilots emphasized that the facilities should be made healthier in order to carry out tandem (dual) flights in a healthy way, and united in the opinion that a prevention mechanism should be established to prevent flights at suspicious points. Adding that they had difficulty in getting critical services such as security camera system, emergency frequency and wind measurement point at the departure point, the pilots said that the systems at Babadağ Cable Car toll booths should be reviewed.

Chairman Çıralı “Our priority is safety, our preparations are for new flight records”

FTSO Chairman of the Board of Directors Osman Çıralı underlined that they will look for solutions to all problems by forwarding the report they will prepare in line with the demands and suggestions from the sector representatives to the relevant institutions and organizations. Stating that they closed the year 2022 by breaking the all-time record in flight numbers, Mayor Çıralı noted that they wanted to prepare for a new record year by maximizing the safety of holidaymakers flying with paragliding, which is their first priority. President Çıralı Babadağ added that they are working to make it the most important paragliding center in Europe and the world, with the arrangements they demand at the take-off and landing points.
