Making a statement after the meeting in which the increase in the tuition fees of private schools next year was discussed, Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer noted that the increase in the quality of private education institutions and the support they need for their services were also evaluated comprehensively.
Explaining that the Ministry of National Education determines the next year's increase on behalf of all students and parents, taking into account the PPI and CPI rates announced in January, Özer announced that they decided to make a change in the increase calculation this year. Özer said, “We decided to determine the price for 2023 based on the consumer price index rather than the producer price index.” said.
Özer stated that in the context of low inflation expectations in 2023 and supporting parents in this process, the Ministry of National Education decided to set this year's wage increase rate as 65 percent.
Stating that all representatives of private education institutions expressed their opinion that the increase was insufficient, Özer said, “But we, as both the government and the Ministry of National Education, have decided to determine the new price by taking into account the inflation expectations in 2023 and the consumer price index. We have also taken such a decision in terms of supporting our parents, and hopefully, we will have put this decision into practice as of tomorrow. I wish our new decision to be beneficial to all our students and parents in private education institutions.”
Thanking the sector representatives in his speech, Özer said, “Although the sector representatives do not accept this increase, we will hopefully overcome the difficulties brought by the new application by supporting each other, both from the ministry and private education institutions.” he said.
