Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç SoyerThe work carried out after 'uncovered the lost ancestral karakılçık seed during his duty in Seferihisar in 2011 continues to spread throughout the city and the country. At this stage, under the leadership of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Agricultural Services Department, the students of Yaşar University Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department and the İzmir Village Coop Union have sown the black seed in Menderes.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, President Tunç Soyer's work carried out in line with the vision of “Another Agriculture is Possible” is growing day by day. Under the leadership of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Department of Agricultural Services, ancestral carob seed was planted with the students of Yaşar University Gastronomy and Cuisine Department on the land in the Develi District of Menderes.

Dr. Seda Genç, Yaşar University Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, Dr. Faculty Member Eylem Ezgi Fadıloğlu, Journalist-Author Tuncer Beybağ, gastronomy students, headmen and cooperative presidents attended.

Neptün Soyer, the President of İzmir Village Coop Union, who sows the wolf by saying "Aye" to the bird, said, "It is very valuable that a handful of seeds bring us together. We should do whatever it takes to reach real, sustainable and healthy food, not post-pandemic or crisis to crisis. Where does this start? It is a story that starts from the soil, whether it ends in the fork, the kitchen or the table. We are very happy that our students can also contribute to this. It is important for young people to know and own healthy food. We thank you very much for being a partner in the story that started with the distribution of blackbird seeds from Seferihisar from bird to wolf.”

Şevket Meriç, Head of Agricultural Services Department of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, who gave information about the reproduction process of ancestral karakılçık seed that started in Seferihisar in 2011, said, “When we throw the wolf to the bird and throw it to ourselves, we see that the seed multiplies exponentially every year with this sacred math. Yaşar University Head of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department Assoc. Seda Genç said, “Contributing to production and planting an ancestral seed such as karakılçık has been a very good experience for us and our students. We will harvest it at the beginning of summer. After grinding, we will bake bread from the ground black pepper flour with our students. Everything that contributes to our education is important to us. We strongly believe in local development and sustainability. It is very important for us that our students make a product from the products they produce. Now, our Yaşar University Gastronomy and Culinary Arts students have a field of ancestral karakılçık wheat. We thank you very much.”

“It is a milestone for human health”

Journalist-Writer Tuncer Beybağ said, “If we eat natural products and feed on products from ancestral seeds, human metabolism is suitable for recognizing them. But when they eat artificial foods, we experience many unnamed diseases because human metabolism does not recognize them. Dear Tunç Soyer and Neptün Soyer. Seeing this fact, it is a milestone for human health that they produce this much from a handful of ancestral black pepper seeds and bring them to the tables in a way that will be introduced to Izmir and Turkey.”

University students who entered the field and participated in the planting also expressed their excitement and satisfaction with the experience. Students also took responsibility and took care of the field until harvest.
