The 5th Karaburun Narcissus Festival, organized by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and Karaburun Municipality to introduce the daffodil to the world, brought together thousands of Izmir residents in the district. Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality hosted the program hosted by Karaburun Mayor İlkay Girgin Erdoğan. Tunç Soyer's wife Neptün Soyer, CHP İzmir Provincial President Şenol Aslanoğlu and his wife Duygu Aslanoğlu, CHP İzmir Deputy Kani Beko, İzmir Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Brigadier General Osman Kılıç, Karaburun District Governor Eyüp Kaykaç, Karaburun Mayor İlkay Girgin Erdoğan and his wife Teoman Erdoğan, Konak Mayor Abdül Batur, Kemalpaşa Mayor Rıdvan Karakayalı, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Barış Karcı, municipal bureaucrats, council members, representatives of political parties, cooperatives, producers, headmen and citizens. There are also food and beverage stands at the festival, where citizens come from all over Turkey and narcissus producers are concentrated. Workshops are also held as part of the festival.

Speaking at the opening of the festival, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer“We welcome our guests from all over Turkey. Karaburun is a paradise. It is such a paradise that a thousand shades of green and a sea like an aquarium welcomes you. We truly live in heaven. So why this poverty, drought? Whenever we lose harmony with each other, poverty begins. Whenever we fight with nature, drought begins. Unless we are satisfied with each other, we lose altogether. We cannot achieve prosperity by marginalizing each other.”
“Our game to him”

Saying that his biggest dream for Karaburun is to export narcissus, President Soyer said, “Karaburun daffodil has created the most beautiful fragrance garden of the Mediterranean. We need to protect our daffodil. As the municipality, we bring thousands of daffodil bulbs to the producers every year. My real dream is to spread this beautiful fragrance all over the world. Start export. You will see, we will achieve this by working hand in hand with Karaburun Municipality”.
“We will ensure development together”
Karaburun Mayor İlkay Girgin Erdoğan said that the day Karaburun was looking forward to had arrived and said, “We aim to increase the bite of our fellow citizens, while ensuring that the agricultural products unique to our district are known more through festivals. We should not see the daffodil just as a flower. Daffodil bulbs are sorted by working hands. In the summer heat, it is left to the ground without saying that there is sun on the hill. The daffodil is not just a flower for us, it is hope, work, love. We have to develop with a production-based growth model. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is leading us on this path. Our Tunç President is always with us. We will ensure development together,” he said.
What's in the two-day program?
Painting exhibitions, band and folk dance performances, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Pop Orchestra and Turkish Folk Music Orchestra concert, producer and daffodil as part of the traditional festival of Karaburun sohbetevents, competitions, interviews and workshops.
