While a total of 2022 billion TL of home care assistance was paid by the Ministry of Family and Social Services in 18, 42 visually impaired individuals benefited from home care assistance as of December.

According to the statement made by the Ministry, it is aimed that the visually impaired people in Turkey have equal rights and opportunities with everyone, integrate with the society and have conditions where they can be independent and free while continuing their daily lives.

In this context, the Ministry opened Visually Impaired Rehabilitation Centers in Istanbul and Ankara in order to support the visually impaired individuals to live independently in the society and stand on their own feet without being dependent on anyone.

In Istanbul Visually Impaired Rehabilitation Center and Yenimahalle Visually Impaired Center Directorate, co-education and rehabilitation services are provided for 15-year-olds and older for a period of 5-5,5 months.

In the centers, visually impaired people are also supported professionally. In this context, 3 thousand 256 visually impaired individuals who successfully completed basic education and rehabilitation services at the center in Istanbul were given their certificates.

Among the trainees who participated in the training and rehabilitation program at the rehabilitation center in Ankara, 486 visually impaired individuals successfully completed the basic and vocational training of the institution and were entitled to receive their certificates. Thus, 4 visually impaired individuals in the centers successfully completed the course programs and were certified.

32 visually impaired individuals continuing their vocational training in the center in Istanbul and 17 visually impaired individuals continuing their education in Ankara will be given their certificates at a ceremony to be held this year.

Home Care Assistance is also provided by the Ministry in order to provide economic support to disabled citizens and their families in need of care.

According to the gender and disability group distribution of the December 2022 data, the number of visually impaired individuals benefiting from Home Care Assistance was 22, of which 885 were women and 19 were men.

According to the report of the health board, people in need who have a disability of 40 percent or more and do not have social security can benefit from the disability pension. Visually impaired citizens with a disability of over 40% can also benefit from this support.

There are more than 2,5 million disabled citizens registered in the National Disability Data System of the Ministry of Family and Social Services. 215 thousand 76 of these people are visually impaired.

In addition to the accessibility and rehabilitation services for the visually impaired, the Ministry also provides employment as civil servants in the public sector. In this context, the number of disabled civil servants, which was 2002 in 5, increased by 777 times and reached 12 as of this year.
