2023 Will Be a Milestone in Electric Vehicle Use

The Year Will Be a Turning Point in Electric Vehicle Usage
2023 Will Be a Milestone in Electric Vehicle Use

Around 2012 million electric and hybrid vehicles were sold worldwide between 2021 and 17. These numbers continue to add up, with 2030 million electric vehicles expected to be on the road by 145.

About 2012 million electric and hybrid vehicles were sold worldwide between 2021 and 17, says Eaton Country Manager Yılmaz Özcan. These numbers continue to add up, with 2030 million electric vehicles expected to be on the road by 145. By 2022, excluding hybrid vehicles, approximately 7000 electric vehicles are on the road in Turkey. One third of these vehicles were sold in the first six months of 2022. The figures show us that the demand for electric vehicles and charging stations is growing in Turkey as well as in the rest of the world.

“Regulations on electric vehicles will continue”

Carbon emission is one of the main environmental threats in the world. Delaying the measures to be taken in this regard can lead to major problems that are very difficult to reverse. The forerunner of these measures is the electrification of the economy. In today's increasingly digital world, the demand for electricity is increasing day by day and it is necessary to meet the increasing demand with efficient renewable energy sources with much lower carbon emissions. At this point, it is of great importance to switch to electric vehicles instead of fossil fuel vehicles in order to reduce carbon emissions. Eaton is among the companies with the largest global production of power storage systems on the renewable energy side and charging stations on the electric vehicle side. There are regulations regarding electric vehicle charging stations both around the world and in Turkey, and more to come. As it is known, according to the number of vehicle parking spaces in new residential and commercial projects to be built in Turkey, as of 2023, it is obligatory to have electric vehicle charging stations at a rate of 5% in residential and commercial projects and 10% in shopping malls. On the other hand, the minimum number of licenses required for the charging network operator's side was determined as 47 AC and 3 DC charging stations of 50kW and above.

“The demand for electric vehicles and charging stations will increase exponentially”

Although there are fewer electric vehicles in Turkey compared to the world and Europe, the rate of increase in ownership shows a great similarity. We can say that Turkey has largely adapted to the trend of transition to electric vehicles, which has become widespread throughout the world. The sales figures achieved in electric vehicles increase every year, exceeding the total sales figures up to the previous year. With the TOGG project, which is planned to be completed in the next period, these figures will increase even more. Although Turkey seems to be at the beginning of this transition period, the demand continues to increase exponentially. The partnership between Eaton and Üçay Group will help move forward rapidly in the establishment of electric vehicle charging stations in Turkey.

“Energy management will become even more important to ensure sustainability”

There are often significant developments in the electric vehicle market around the world. Electric vehicles are of great importance for a sustainable future. In investments in the electric vehicle market, steps have been taken for serious sanctions all over the world, especially in European countries. With the planned launch of Turkey's domestic electric vehicle, TOGG, on the roads in the near future, the perception of vehicle users towards electric vehicles in Turkey will change.

Eaton has brought the “Energy Generating Buildings” approach to electric vehicle charging, which provides maximum benefit from renewable energy generation for buildings such as residences and shopping malls. With the acquisition of Green Motion, the leading Swiss electric vehicle charging station company, by Eaton, it is aimed to offer a wide range of electric vehicle charging solutions to customers in Turkey. Integrating renewable energy with the Energy Generating Buildings approach will play an important role in facilitating and optimizing the transition of buildings to a high renewable energy system, in addition to solving problems related to transportation and electrification of heat.
