Baltalimanı Biological Waste Water Treatment Plant; It was commissioned by İSKİ in 1997 in order to treat wastewater originating from Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, Eyüpsultan, Kağıthane, Sarıyer and Şişli districts. In the next period, it was decided to add a Biological Waste Water Treatment Plant next to the existing plant with a total wastewater treatment capacity of 625.000 m3/day. BAŞA: “ADVANCED BIOLOGICAL TREATMENT RATE INCREASED TO 58 PERCENT”
According to the information given by İSKİ General Manager Başa; Costing approximately 1,9 billion TL, the state-of-the-art facility consisted of the following main units: Stone holder, coarse grid and entrance lifting unit. Fine screen, grit holding unit and perforated screen. Aeration pools. Settling pools. Sludge digestion tanks. Biogas storage tanks. Sludge drying unit. Cogeneration unit. While the existing facility will only serve as a pre-treatment process, the newly built facility will biologically treat wastewater. The digestion tanks were constructed as 42 reinforced concrete structures with a height of 25 meters and a diameter of 6 meters with egg cross section, with the system implemented for the first time in Turkey. With the digestion tanks, 44 thousand Nm3 of biogas will be produced per day at the facility. Electricity from biogas will meet 60 percent of the facility's total energy needs. At the facility, approximately 90 tons of sludge will be disposed of at a rate of 70.000 percent annually. With the activation of the Baltalimanı Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant, the biological and advanced biological treatment rate in Istanbul will rise to 58 percent. A significant contribution will be made to the protection of the environment and public health, by discharging the wastewater from -70 meters to the undercurrent of the Bosphorus after biological treatment.
