According to information obtained from the Hubei Province Culture and Tourism Department, the “Yunxian Man Skull No. 3” fossil discovered in the province's Shiyan city was successfully unearthed after 6 months of excavation work.

Dating back to about 1 million years ago, the "Yunxian Man Skull No. 3" fossil is the most complete ancient human skull fossil from the same period discovered to date in the interior of Eurasia, and is an important piece of evidence for the study of the emergence and development of humans in East Asia.

This important discovery proves the million-year history of humankind in China.

The “Yunxian Man Skull No. 3” fossil was discovered at the Xuetang Liangzi ruin site in a new round of archaeological excavations launched on May 18 this year. The fossil is located on the wall of the archaeological discovery pit, only 0,62 meters above the surface.

After nearly 6 months of excavation by the archeology team, this precious ancient human fossil, with a million-year history, entered the stage of unearthing in early December.

In 1989 and 1990, two ancient human skull fossils dated to 1 million years ago, named “Yunxian Man Skull No. 1” and “Yunxian Man Skull No. 2”, were unearthed at the Xuetang Liangzi relic site. Discovered only about 1 meters away from skulls 2 and 35, the better-preserved Yunxian Man Skull No. 3 is the most complete ancient human skull in the Eurasian interior.

This latest discovery is expected to provide new evidence for the origin and evolution of man.
