The 24th “People Should Be Remembered While They Live” award ceremony was held by the Izmir Branch of the Turkish Footballmen's Association (TÜRFAD). Izmir Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger, Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality attended the ceremony held at Selahattin Akçiçek Cultural Center with the support of Konak Municipality. Tunç Soyer, Konak Mayor Abdül Batur, Turkish Football Federation President Mehmet Büyükekşi, İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor Mustafa Öztürk, İzmir Provincial Police Chief Mehmet Şahne, Turkish Football Association General President Levent Erdoğan, İzmir Youth and Sports Provincial Director Murat Eskici, TÜRFAD Chairman Levent Erdoğan and Bahri Vreskala, Head of the Izmir Branch of the Turkish Footballmen's Association.
Governor Köşger condemned what happened in Göztepe-Altay match
Speaking at the award ceremony, İzmir Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger said that it is important to remember people while they are alive, and said, “This way, it will also motivate people who come from behind.” Governor Köşger also touched upon the events of Göztepe-Altay match last November 28 and said: “Sports is actually loyalty, brotherhood, friendship, unity and togetherness. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago, we had an incident in Izmir that made us sweat cold. This is not the face of İzmir, this is the face of İzmir. The face of Izmir is loyalty, brotherhood and togetherness. This is sportsmanship and fairness. I condemn those who did it. I also appreciate and applaud those who do this.”

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer Emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship in sports, he said, “The issue of gentlemanliness is one of the most fundamental pillars of football. Konak Mayor Abdül Batur said, “It is important that people receive rewards for their achievements while they are alive. It is very meaningful to give awards to people who value the city in the field of sports. As Konak Municipality, we do our best to develop sports facilities in the district and to help young people gain sports habits.”
The emphasis on sportsmanship came to the fore
Mehmet Büyükekşi, President of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), said, “As TFF, our main goal is to develop football with the spirit of fair play, to reach larger masses, to increase its brand value and reputation, to carry our country higher in this field, We call fair play emphatically because we call it fair play. When we look at the people who have it written, they are all people with a gentleman's spirit at the same time. These are people who are dedicated to making the world a better place. All achievements are respectfully remembered when they are valuable. It is the same in football history. Many values such as Metin Oktay and Mustafa Denizli, raised by Izmir, the city where football was played for the first time, will be remembered with respect and love throughout history.”
TÜRFAD President Levent Erdoğan stated that they have a number of projects in the field of sports. İzmir Branch President Bahri Vreskala expressed that İzmir is the city of firsts in every field and thanked everyone who supported them.
