Kaşkaloğlu Eye Hospital Founder Prof. Dr. Mahmut Kaşkaloğlu said that cataract surgery is the most performed eye surgery in the world.

Reminding that 500 thousand cataract operations are performed annually in Turkey, Kaşkaloğlu said, “As the elderly population in Germany is higher, this figure reaches one million. This figure will increase in the next 5 years in our country," he said.

Emphasizing that studies have shown that patients who have cataract disease and have surgery in the same health condition, live longer than other patients who do not have surgery. Dr. Mahmut Kaşkaloğlu said, "According to the statistics obtained as a result of research on one and a half million people, this result was achieved due to the increase in the quality of life of patients who had cataract surgery."

AFFECTS QUALITY OF LIFE

Kaşkaloğlu stated that especially after the age of 65, cataract affects the quality of life and continued his words as follows: The most important reason for this is that the patient's quality of life increases as the patient starts to see after surgery. People who have had cataract surgery also experience developments such as the reduction of home accidents, the complete and more accurate use of drugs, the ability to perform daily activities on the street and the ability to enter social environments. After cataract surgery, people can lead a more active life and do their own business more easily.

REQUIRES EXPERTISE

Pointing out that the success and satisfaction rate has increased with the developing femtosecond laser technology in cataract surgery, Prof. Dr. Mahmut Kaşkaloğlu said, “For this reason, people now decide to operate more comfortably. In cataract, the lens that has lost its transparency in the eye is removed and replaced with a new one. Today, in cataract surgery, farsightedness and other eye defects that were present before the operation are also treated. The quality of life is increased. Ophthalmologists cannot treat all eye diseases at once. You definitely need to specialize. Cataract surgery requires separate expertise, while retina requires separate expertise. For this reason, I recommend that patients, if they have a serious illness, should be examined by a specialist with a good research.”
