Mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Muhittin BöcekTwo new units have been added to the Manavgat Solid Waste Landfill and Energy Generation Facility with the environmentalist and innovative approach of . Antalya Metropolitan Municipality added a mechanical separation unit and a gas balloon unit to the facility.

Packaging Wastes are Reinvested in the Economy

Domestic solid wastes coming to Manavgat Transfer Station by Manavgat Municipality with small vehicles are transferred to trucks belonging to Antalya Metropolitan Municipality and transported to Manavgat Solid Waste Landfill and Energy Generation Facility. In the mechanical separation unit, the packaging wastes in the domestic waste are separated according to their volumetric size and types, and baled and brought into the economy. Since the amount of waste sent to the landfill is reduced by the separation of packaging waste, the economic life of the landfill is extended. While these wastes are brought into the circular economy, environmental pollution is prevented. With the construction of the mechanical separation unit, approximately 80 personnel will be employed.

Energy Production Amount Increased

As another new unit of the power generation facility, the gas block unit was created. By means of the gas balloon, the methane gas drawn from the field with the collector system is supplied to the system in a more balanced way, thus increasing the energy production efficiency by 5 percent. The amount of electricity produced at the Metropolitan Municipality Manavgat Solid Waste Landfill and Energy Generation Facility with an installed capacity of 3,6 MW corresponds to the monthly electrical energy needs of 11 households. The energy produced is sold and returned to the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality as income. The amount of carbon emissions reduced by the conversion of methane gas formed in the landfill into electrical energy is 500 tons.
