A flag change took place in the Association of Mobile Telecommunication Operators (m-TOD), which was established in 2016 with the aim of bringing Turkey to a pioneering, innovative and leading position in mobile communication technologies, ensuring that the approach to legislation is compatible with the digital age, and contributing to the journey of the information society in our country. According to the decision taken at the m-TOD General Assembly held on November 30, 2022, Türk Telekom CEO Ümit Önal took over the m-TOD Board Chairmanship from Turkcell General Manager Murat Erkan. Türk Telekom, Turkcell and Vodafone assume the chairmanship of m-TOD on a rotating basis every year. Ümit Önal, who will be the chairman for a year, said that m-TOD will work with the vision of the new Century of Turkey.

m-TOD Chairman Ümit Önal, in his assessment of the new period, said, “Within the scope of our President's vision of the 'Century of Turkey', we will continue to take the necessary steps in the field of information and communication technologies under the umbrella of m-TOD. As always, we will be in full harmony. Today, the telecommunications sector plays a key facilitator role for socially, economically and environmentally sustainable development. Because in the new digital age, telecommunications provides the flow and harmony, almost like a maestro that establishes the connections between different sectors. Our habits and expectations are also reshaped in parallel with the change; Our priorities are reordered. Thanks to telecommunications, the boundaries of communication are disappearing and we are witnessing the birth of a new information society. We are determined to fulfill the mission assigned to us in this regard.”

Ümit Önal pointed out that communication is the basis of the information society; “Telecommunications now contribute significantly to improving the quality of life. Telecommunication, which directs technologies such as machine-to-machine communication (M2M), Internet of Things (IoT), plays a vital role in the digitalization process and transformation into an information society. Digital economies are used in daily life such as business, education, health, banking, etc. The speed and quality of data service of telecommunication makes a difference in the management of disasters and emergencies in many areas that we encounter.

“As m-TOD stakeholders, we will be in an efficient work”

Noting that as m-TOD, they always aim to catch up with global trends, Ümit Önal said, “As all m-TOD stakeholders, we will be in an efficient work in the new communication era of our country. We will safely carry Turkey to a future where global mobility is in question. For this, we are ready today to create an awareness that determines the rules of the new world, especially domestic and national software and hardware mobilization. As m-TOD, which was established with the cooperation of Turkey's most valuable companies, we will continue to support the execution of social activities needed by the society and to bring cultural, legal and scientific studies together with the society. May the new term be beneficial for both our association and our country.” said.
