Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu announced that with the Mersin-Tarsus Highway Junction - Mersin OSB Connection Junction, the transportation from the highway to Mersin 1st Organized Industrial Zone was shortened by 12 kilometers and to the 2nd Organized Industrial Zone by 15 kilometers. Underlining that uninterrupted and comfortable transportation has been established, Karaismailoğlu emphasized that a total of 72 million TL will be saved annually with the completed connection.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu attended the opening ceremony of Mersin OSB highway connection. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu stated that Mersin, the center of unity, brotherhood and tolerance, is developing day by day, its attractiveness is increasing, it hosts new employment opportunities, and stands out as a rising value in its region. It is taking firm steps forward to become one of the most popular transportation, energy and trade centers of our country with its Mersin International Port, Çukurova Regional Airport, which is under construction, Mediterranean Coastal Road Project and Taşucu Highway. As the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, we go beyond these needs and establish a very strong transportation network in order to meet the transportation needs that arise due to the speed of development of Mersin and to prepare our city for the future. Because we know that one of the most important indicators of a developed civilization and a strong country is its transportation network and infrastructure. As the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, which prioritizes holistic development and realizes investments to meet the infrastructure needs of Turkey's 81 provinces, we have invested more than 1 trillion 653 billion liras for our country's transportation and communication investments so far.

WE COMPLETED 100 YEARS OF INFRASTRUCTURE NEEDS IN A SHORT TIME AS 20 YEARS

Emphasizing that they completed their 100-year infrastructure needs in a short period of 20 years, Karaismailoğlu stated that they increased the length of the divided road from 2002 thousand 6 kilometers in 100 to approximately 29 thousand kilometers. Thanks to a total of 29 thousand kilometers of divided roads owned throughout the country today; Noting that the annual amount of savings from highways has reached approximately 55 billion liras, Karaismailoğlu said, “We have encouraged and supported environmentally friendly new generation transportation by reducing carbon emissions by 5 million tons every year. While the number of vehicles increased from 2003 million to 2021 million between 8 and 26, we also reduced the loss of life by 80 percent thanks to our infrastructure development efforts. Thanks to safe transportation infrastructures and the reduction of fatal accidents, we save the lives of 13 citizens on average annually. We are also rapidly continuing our efforts to raise these achievements even higher. We continue to work on the construction of 100 kilometers of divided highways. Our goal is; Until 3, our highway length is to reach 665 thousand 2053 kilometers and our divided road length to 8 thousand 325 kilometers.

23 BILLION TL INVESTMENT IN MERSIN'S TRANSPORTATION AND COMMUNICATION INFRASTRUCTURE

Minister of Transport, Karaismailoğlu, pointed out that Mersin received the share it deserves from these investments, and said that new investments are also planned in line with the development goals of the city. Karaismailoğlu stated that they have invested a total of 2003 billion liras for Mersin's transportation and communication infrastructure since 23 and continued as follows:

“We have increased the 278 kilometers of divided road length in our city to 555 kilometers, and the 271 kilometers of roads with BSK to 539 kilometers. We are currently working on 33 different highway projects in Mersin with a project cost of 326 billion 15 million TL. One of the most important of these projects is our Mediterranean Coastal Road works, which will put the grueling journeys of the Mediterranean coast into history when completed. Within our project with a length of 228 kilometers; There are 37 double tube tunnels with a length of 914 thousand 28 meters, 5 double bridges with a length of 134 thousand 17 meters, 398 bridges with a length of 8 meters and 3 Interchanges with Different Levels. In project scope; We have completed 196,5 kilometers of divided roads, 398 bridges with a length of 8 meters, 12 tunnels with a length of 853 thousand 15 meters, 1295 viaducts with a length of 5 meters and a junction of 694 different levels with a length of 2 meters. We continue our work quickly and successfully.”

MERSIN IS AS THE HEART OF THE EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN

Noting that Mersin is the heart of the Eastern Mediterranean with its free zone, large industrial and commercial establishments, and Turkey's 2nd largest port in terms of container volume, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoğlu gave the following information about the highway connection:

“The roads we have built are like the capillaries that carry blood to this heart. Mersin Organized Industrial Zone Highway Connection is also a very important project for Mersin. With the Mersin-Tarsus Highway Junction - Mersin OSB Connection Junction that we have completed, transportation from the highway to Mersin 1st Organized Industrial Zone has been shortened by 12 kilometers and to the 2nd Organized Industrial Zone by 15 kilometers. Uninterrupted and comfortable transportation was established on the relevant route. The main body length of the connection junction built within the scope of the project is 1 kilometer, and the length of the junction arms is 3 kilometers. In addition, 431 underpasses with a total length of 3 meters were built in the project. Thanks to this completed link; A total of 39 million TL will be saved annually, 33 million TL from time and 72 million TL from fuel. Carbon emissions will also decrease by 6 thousand 527 tons. Within the scope of the project, the construction work continues in the 9,5nd part, which is 2 kilometers long. With the completion of the 2nd part; A high standard road network will be established between Tarsus - Adana - Gaziantep Motorway, Mersin-Tarsus Organized Industrial Zones and D-400 State Road. Like this; The traffic load on the D-24 State Road, where an average of 230 vehicles pass daily, will be reduced and the highway will be used more efficiently. In addition, the region will contribute to the increase of trade, agricultural activities and especially tourism opportunities.

TRAVEL TIME WITH THE MERSIN-GAZIANTEP SPEED TRAIN LINE WILL DECREASE TO 2 HOURS 15 MINUTES

Karaismailoğlu stated that they have implemented very important projects in all transportation sectors in Mersin, which will develop with all transportation modes, as it is all over Turkey, and drew attention to the rapid progress of the work on the high-speed train line from Mersin to Gaziantep. Emphasizing that the travel time between Mersin-Adana and Gaziantep will be reduced to 312,5 hours and 2024 minutes with the project, which has a length of 2 kilometers and is planned to be completed by the end of 15, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu said, “The work of our Çukurova Regional Airport, which will fully meet the air transportation needs of the region when it is put into service, continues successfully. it does. We have completed the entire infrastructure construction. We also made 73 percent progress in superstructure construction. Mersin Terminal 2nd Phase Expansion Project at Mersin International Port, which will further develop our increasing maritime trade volume between all countries in the region, is also continuing rapidly. With the port expansion project, the port capacity will increase from 2,6 million TEU to 3,6 million TEU, and 500 additional employment opportunities will be created once it is completed and put into operation. In addition, our study project works continue at Mersin container port. Mersin, with its expanding and developing road network, growing port, Regional Çukurova Airport and rising nuclear power plant, is taking firm steps towards becoming one of the most popular transportation, energy and trade centers of our country. This is happening not only in Mersin, but all over our country," he said.
